I finally decided that I'm going to buy the RS500 ic from Forge. Now here's the question. Can I still use our stock Rad, or am I going to have to us the RS500 Rad???. I mean I know I will have to do some fabrication and cutting, but will the RS500 ic block the Rad completely no matter which way I mount it???. The XR's Rad looks a little narrower than pictures of the RS Rad.

RS500 intercooler
Re: RS500 intercooler
Since the intercooler inlet/outlet tubes pass over the top of the radiator you'll probably have to use a radiator that isn't as tall. Some folks just push the stock radiator down when they want the tubes to come over the top of the radiator. This is a poor move, IMO.Kulik wrote:I finally decided that I'm going to buy the RS500 ic from Forge. Now here's the question. That core goes in front of the rad, where the a.c. condenser is (or was). In order to use the stock rad, it must be lowered for the pipes to go over it, or better yet, get a Saab 900 or Audi 5000 rad. If you want to, you can also spend some $$$ and get a shorter, aftermarket aluminum rad.
I've also seen at least one example of a stock rad kept in place, but cutting through the core support (the sheet metal over the rad) to make passageways for the pipes-- I'd be a little leery of that, though-- better to get a shorty rad, IMHO.
