The numbers published in Graham Robson's excellent book 'The Sporting Fords - Sierras' are somewhat different:

1985 12,400
1986 13,559
1987 7,352
1988 6,283 XR4Ti
1989 2,870 XR4Ti

Total: 42,464 XR4Ti
What edition of that book are those numbers from? My copy of Graham Robson's 'The Sporting Ford's Vol 4: Sierras'
Shows the total number of XR4Ti as 45,748

On the driver's side shock tower, the car's build date has been stamped. Mine is 6-4-85, which falls on Carlisle weekend and also happens to make it exactly one month older than my son. 8)
On my 1989 XR, the DS shock tower has "1109" stamped in yellow & the driver's door says 11/88.

Probably not the latest car, but the OO told me he ordered it when he learned Ford was pulling the plug on them.

...and then my grandson-- his son-- was born on 6/4/10.

Really wish I hadn't sold that car... :(

There are 12/88 cars out there. December 23, 1988 was the final day of production. So 12/88 door tags with strut tower stamps 12 23 ... those are the last ones ever made.

There certainly are. Mine is a December 5th 1988 car. Owned since new.
