Hi everybody!

Post by Amfo »

After 12 long years.....

I am back into the XR4ti Scene!!

I picked up the 87 black XR that was for sale on CL about a month ago in the Tacoma/Lakewood area if anyone saw the posting.

Paid 3500 bucks and he was asking 4k. Ends up he did not know what he had, as the car had only 9500 original miles and a 5 speed.

Once I got it home I verfied the mileage as the underside was so clean I could eat off it it..

However, after sitting in a warehouse for years I pretty much have to replace all the under hood rubber and hoses, etc. Small radiator leak as well. Besides that Im glad to be back!!!

Cheers!

Lived in Sammamish in '05-'06... sorry I missed you. We'll have to fix that one of these days. I'm coming up for some fresh air soon, probably in July. Eventually, I plan to move back... got a few more years, perhaps.

I would love to make it, but I am reluctant to rip on her for that long of a drive until I get the timing belt and coolant hoses replaced. Just waiting on one of Mike O's (merkurdepot.com) aluminum xr radiators to come back in stock, unless someone else knows what I can put in her?

I am from the school of doing it all at one time, first the first time. She's running and driving now just fine.

Anyone know where I can get a Sierra hood with vent holes already in it? Just scored a set of real vents off ebay uk for 120.00 but do not want to cut into my nice stock hood.

You can get stock hoods fairly easily, but actual Sierra ones will come rather more dear... besides the fact that they're flatter. In my humble opinion, the Merkur hood is much better aesthetically than the Sierra hood.

Roger that sir!

so what is the best way to cut these damn things in? I have basic metal skills. I figure a thin disc on a die grinder? maybe a little dremel action as well to clean things up? Any tips would be much appreciated, along with a photo of a completed install so I can fab up my brackets.

Cheers!

For sure, lets make it happen! Just waiting on one of Mike O's radiators to get back in stock, then I will be good to go where ever. Havent wandered to far from the house yet until I do that, timing belt, all cooling hoses, etc!
