Summer Merkur Pictures

Post by Pat Sprague » Fri Dec 26, 2008 1:05 pm

Here are my Merkurs. Two XR5.0's and a Scorpio. The Silver XR is my daily driver, very tight and quite the sleeper. Original Paint and interior (except the cossie grill, auto-meter gages and headliner). The list of performance extras is long, currently 300+rw hp. The Black one is what I am currently changing the rear suspension to a 2004 Cobra IRS, and the front to a 2008 Mustang GT. The Black one is actually much more fun to drive than the silver one even though it has much less hp. The Scorpio is a factory 5-speed with NICE interior, no tears in leather or dash (for sale if anyone is interested first $2,500). Enjoy, Pat

Is that silver XR Jim Hunter's old V8 car?

That silver 5.0 is damn clean. Really damn clean. Make some trick oil, brake etc light in the gauge cluster and find a mint dash and that car is %100 dialed. Really - top notch.

Couldn't agree more. Every time I see a V8 XR done right, as this one is, it just makes me think about what a winner Ford would have had if they only had the stones and the vision... very nice! 8)

That V8 looks like it was supposed to be in there, nice job.

Custom headers? How hard is it to change spark plugs?

Beautiful collection; congratulations!

[But serious demerits for the ratty underhood insulation on the Scorp. :P ]

For me that is the only thing holding that car back from being top notch.

The gauges are fine imho, its only the little pod with the signals etc that detract from it. If the rest wasn't as nice it would be fine, but the rest is top notch, so that part doesn't fit.

2 back to back green triangles with the signal led's behind them, and something similar for the others would make it more pro. Just cut them right into the dash in locations that would be chosen by a factory team.

Sorry I have not been back to the post for a few days. Yes the Silver Car is Jim Hunter's old car. Since I bought it, I put new brakes, tires, all suspension bushings and aluminum diff mount (MC-2 racing), repaired the leather seats and put in a new headliner, re-built the CV's and replaced the axle boots, I cleaned up the wiring under the hood and repainted the former battery tray, and I put in a decent sound system. My next project on the Silver car is the gage pod. I will probably have to make my own indicator light panel since I have not found something easy that will fit.

The Black XR has a Toyota front bumper (I think celica). We had a bad windstorm last night and the windsheild in the black car got cracked when part of the portable garage caved in on it.

The Scorpio hood liner got tore up by red squirels, they got my wife's town and country as well.
