More work updates...was given a piece of heat shield that normally fits a Porsche, and manipulated it to work for my needs

Image

Image

The lower frame rail also got heat guard to protect the paint and tunnel from excessive heat(not shown in this pic)
Image

Image

Even wrapped the air box to resist heat
Image

Took the scrap piece left over to attempt to cover the top of turbo
Image

For now this will work but want to get same type of shielding and make on that will cover more

I think my eyes dilate when looking at pix of your engine bay-- must be something wrong with me... :dunno

I really like that heat shielding stuff. We could all probably use some of that, here and there. :headbang

Yea you're right, my old engine bay was repainted back in 2000 when I rebuilt the original 2.3 and installed the A4LD. Over the years the heat from down pipe yellowed the white. Now since the YB has been in, I was finding the shock tower to hot to touch, hood over turbo area the same. So before the paint has the chance to go yellow /brown, and car pained, I wanted some type of protection. Have long considered it from the start when I have most of the harnesses on that side, ABS, Alt, Engine etc. Still want to make a flat aluminum cover for top of them were the battery used to be.

BAD NEWS.....Going Going....GONE

Hate to post bad stuff...but as we say here in Tx....$#!* happens

Day after I drove a Lamborghini Gallardo at work, better than sex, out making a burger run I got to confident and increased my corning speed by 30% at one corner I loved to cut the apex and feel the car lift and settle back down....well this time at near 60 it didn't settle. Rear end lifted to the point of no weight to grip road, tail end came around.....felt like slow motion but after 300ft crossed the curb, pruned 2 trees and shrubs in the median and landed heading same direction but other side of road, still drove it home(1/4 mile).

Damage, one badly twisted car, one bent strut, blown rear tire, cord busted on 2others, one good but they don't make them no more. MO6's bent, one untouched, right side wheels bent off center, RS bumper toast but I can rebuild it.

Trying to decide if I've got the ambition to do this again, lot of dog work, will need excellent donor car to consider, strip clean, transfer all to another car...or part out. Got the MK1 RS and a 2016 RS on order, house that I need to finish. These projects keep me so busy, FRS then SierraRS I've neglected the house.

If I had enough interest...I might part...otherwise need to find good donor that's worthy of the resurrection of one of the finest cars I've had

Drivers side...and yes the door is shut all the way...shows the twist in body...when looking from back of car, I can tell the roof line higher on pass side

The landscaping I did..entrance side

...exit side and the intersection I took the HAARD left hander

Please add to name to the list of people who want you to find another shell and transplant all of these wonderful parts into it...

Yea...could have been worse, glad nobody else was involved, just me. Thinking back I was very foolish, to old to be acting so young

I know Don Battle in Texas has a straight body silver 87 shell he's looking to get rid of. He had it when I bought the 89 he had and an engine off of him. I can get in touch with him if you like. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Ugh! Sorry to hear about this. Was an awesome build.

I'd like to see all this good stuff going into a clean shell.

Bart has that XR/3DR combo shell...a damn fine candidate if I do say so my self :)

Here's a screen shot from Facebook.
Friend him & ask.
I know he's gone back & forth over what to do with it.

I did, but while looking through his photos I didn't come across this car. Is there another way to reach him.

I drove down to Hubbard, Tx Sat to check one out, looks promising but before I pull the trigger would like to see if Bart still has that one available.
