Is this an XR Engine?

Post by Bob Weir »

AdvanceAuto has a "Diagnose Misfire" story 10 Nov 2016. Clicking in the link at end of intro shows the attached photo.

If it is an XR, does anybody recognize it? If not an XR, what car & engine is it?

I see 2 cam gears, so not an XR engine. Looks like its probably a Toyota 24v inline 6 if I had to guess just from that picture.

What are the six blue things in a row? Like capped off lines or something? Behind the line that goes up and over the valve cover. Count the teeth on the cam gears and see if it is toyota.

Intake being on the left side isn't Toyota I6. The 6 things I think are ignition coils/plug wires.

Definitely not a Ford. That alternator connector looks very nice though.

Cam gear style and oil cap location still have me leaning towards a Toyota inline 6 of some sort...

IDing a random motor is one of the little things that makes the MCA forums interesting.

I'd love to get auto parts supplier[s] to use a pik of a stock or modified xr for an ID contest. Of course there would have to be 2 categories:
[a] MCA know-it-alls, vs The rest of us [insert descriptive adjective].

Have a Happy Thanksgiving
