i think the stacks help.

like the bell mouth turbo inlets.

in the plenum.... i dunno maybe. any little bit helps.

this calls for a race between luke G, and colin. :D
Right, turbo INLET. There's no forced induction in that portion of the intake tract. It's ALWAYS under vacuum.

Try again.....you should try and stay away from blanket statements like that.

I wonder what Harry King would have to say about that?

They do help inside a pressurized intake plenum. The air is not rushing in directly to each cylinder, it is filling a plenum and regardless of whether it's being pushed or pulled, you want a smooth transition out of the plenum into the intake tract. The inlet bells allow for that.

Colin, you are right to use them, esp in an intake with a bit of a plenum.

All in all, it must be said that you're doing a terrific job to ensure that what you're building not only works, but is reliable. Extra material in weak spots is a great idea, and your oil passage is also. I think another way to do it there might be with a bit of actual piping rather than a hose, if one were not going with the solution you've taken.

There is one other factor worth addressing here, which is what effect masses of metal, or lack thereof, might do to the cooling of the head, as well as with the possible formation of hot spots, not adequately cooled in comparison to the rest of the head. I guess this is a sort of terra incognita for a DIY'er without the luxury of the factory's resources.

I hope for the best possible results and look forward to seeing the finished product at Carlisle!

YEA,.. THATS THE WORD I WAS LOOKIN FOR.

SMOOTH.

SEE,... SMOOTHE GOING INTO THE TURBO, AND SMOOTHE GOING OUT OF THE PLENUM :D .

IM NOT SURE, BUT I BET ALOT OF THOSE 100,000,00000 HORSEPOWER TURBO 6 SECOND RACE CARS USE BELLS AND STACKS ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Umm, yeah the RS YB has it inside their plenum, so does T's, Phil's, some other dudes in the UK..etc,etc etc. I don't want trumpets in my plenum though....I want drums..I more of a beat keeper. LOL.

Wilky Alex with the red 16v I think is selling his engine.

Yup, he wants $2000 for it (or at least that's what he told me at Carlisle...) it's got adjustable cam gears, PM header and intake manifold (duh), built up bottom end with Wiseco pistons and Crower rods, etc.

I think he has a few modified Volvo heads that he's selling, too... but after seeing the welding on them... bleghh... :?

I think they're using it because it's got a pressure cap on it, like our stock bottles... but without all the unnecessary hoses coming out of it. :)

Muffa's white volvo head did about 400hp at 12 psi with big turbo, and old stock 2.3 block.

Alex did 411 whp on 17 psi out of a T4/60-1, crower/wiseco bottom end, and mildly (if at all?) ported head... running on SDS. I'm shooting for 400 whp. Seems to be par for the course.

I have to ask this... what's with the "nylon stocking" over the turbo inlet? This car isn't run on the street like this, is it? No proper filter?
