the ZX2's seem a little out of the price range for her... you dont get a very nice one for less than $2000

but this SHO (alt+w) is what I'm really thinking about[/url]

Toyota Paseo. Very underrated car. Handles well, comfortable, good mileage (~33 city 45+ hwy in my experience) and its old school Toyota so itll run forever. And a lot cheaper than $2000.

I really like the idea of a first or second generation SHO (mostly cuz I can see myself driving it a lot of the time)

But the reliability factor scares me...

The honda/toyota thing really doesnt tickle my fancy cuz people think that the quality on these cars are so much better than on american cars... so you have to pay more for an example in similar condition....

We're going to look at the SHO tomorrow... Its a 94 automatic with 141000 miles.... It seems like its in pretty good condition and many of the engine seals have been redone recently and new brakes. I guess it might need new shocks though

but in reality... he's asking $1600 for it and I figure he'll take about $1200 for it... so if you pay the $1200 and get new shocks for $800 you'd have a car that might last you another 40000 trouble free miles?

RE: Honda/Toyota: Yes but they should last longer, and you can get 30k-50k mile japanese import engines all day long to keep them going.

The miata is a great suggestion... as is the paseo

As she is 22 (the same age as me)... I feel like she'd be better off with a car that has some room so that she can move stuff around.

So we went to see the car and i'd describe it as being in very good condition. Paint and body fit were very good...nearly excellent. The inside was appropriately worn for a 140k mile car... the shocks were on their way out but the car was still very driveable

unfortunately the air conditioning didn't work... when I talked to him on wednesday it worked but now it doesn't (isnt it weird how problems seem to crop up after you've driven a good distance to see a car).

So... I'm thinking like it needs a new ac compressor... which costs like $75 for a remanufactured one off ebay. How much would one expect to pay for it to be installed?

cuz i think i'd be willing to pay $1200 for it if the ac works and only $1000 if it doesnt...
