Canada is smaller than Texas?????
The real question for our politicians is why do we in Canada ( 2nd largest oil reserve in the WORLD) pay more that $1 more per US gallon than the lovely US of A does??? Guess where that oil came from in the first place.
Just like we pay more the cars that were built here in the first place.
Same goes for Hydro Electricity, Lumber, food, on & on...........

Yeah, problem is most of the rest of the world live in countries much smaller than the state of Texas. That compact geography has always made mass transit a logical alternative, whereas our wide open spaces and burbs have made MT a last-choice option.

The much bigger issue is what that $5 a gallon does to EVERYTHING else we consume. Hold on to your jock straps boys and girls (hey, it's a new world out there), it's gonna be a rough ride. But at least Obama's oil buddies are making out big time. Oooops, sorry...wrong party in power for that story line.

Yeah, but like ALL of us, you'll be less fine then if it was still $2 per gallon. Again, it's about way more than just the cost of the stuff that goes in your car's tank.

It was up to $1.32 per liter here the other day. Still around $1.29 - $1.30

Got in the other day in Niagara Falls NY at Smokin' Joe's for $3.50 per US gallon.

$1.26 today.
$1.23 yesterday.
The gougers are a bit more careful here. All it takes is ONE politician to threaten an "inquiry" to get the (expletive delted) companies to reconsider their profit margins.

What I don't understand is why we get hit 'immediately' there is an 'oil scare' of any kind. From drill head to refinery to gas station takes weeks!

IIRC, in the UK they made that illegal.....'scare in Libya on Monday and gas goes up' is a no-no.

this will probably end up like last time when it spiked to huge amounts for like eight months and then the price of gas plummeted. Eventually people who don't need to drive will drive less therefore they will make less money for gas purchased at the higher price.

It just takes longer for the market to effect gas prices because they are regulated by the people who are refining it and the whole world needs it.

The gas prices arent regulated by the nations that are refining it, the prices are based mostly on market speculation. In America, most of our gas comes from Canada anyway, almost none from Libya or any other troubled nation that is in the news.

As mentioned, it's illegal here, too.
This, IMHO is why we have a government, not to raise taxes, increase the size of the government, and spend our $ so foolishly that it becomes apparent that they're totally out of touch with reality, and their purpose in society. (deep breath)
Supposed to be people employed by us to look out for our interests, like keeping rampant gouging in check, on a commodity that has a shotgun/domino effect on the economy, hurting mostly the end user who can least afford it.
