If I had the money...

Post by MagentaRed »

...I'd be all over this one.

1967 AMC Rebel SST with 24k original miles.

I always loved AMC cars. Unfortunately, the only AMC I've ever owned was a Pacer...wagon. :(

What be your maximum bid? (Lotsa bidders on this...)

The Pacer was only a hatchback, IIRC.

I owned two AMCs, a 66 and a 65 in that order, both Cross Country wagons. AMCs were the US equivalent of Volvos of that period-plain Jane but dead reliable and comfortable transportation.

YMMV ;-)

We had two AMC's when I was a kid: an very early 70's Ambassador with the 304 V8-- actually not a bad car, with a nice engine-- and a '75 Matador with the straight six (ditto, and definitely out there on styling). The chassis got ropey with age, and as I recall, were next to impossible to fix for some reason, but they were pretty decent and mechanically reliable cars. A good friend of mine had a Pacer he converted to a "pickup truck"-- more like a Brat or Brad's car-- the straight six in the smaller car was pretty torquey, and the car handled surprisingly well. Another buddy had an AMX, or whatever their equivalent was, late 70's. It was designed to compete with the cotemporary Pony cars and could deliver fairly well in the ass-hauling department.
This is my car, and these are my people!

OK, a pal of mine late 70s had a Gremlin..... WTF were the "designers" thinking?
It had the denim interior, (again...) a v-8 and 4 speed. I seem to remember ALL the Nash based stuff had suspension issues.
It was scary over 60 mph, but it sure got there in a hurry.

Ed, our Pacer was definitely a wagon. Fake wood sides and all. I ended up giving it to my Dad who drove it until it finally crapped out.

Ah, yes; citing the fake wood panels brought back the recollection. Thanks.
