Nikon DSLR rubber grip material

Post by Father Adam »

I could do with some help please folks, I've just bought a Nikon D2X that needs a rubber grip piece for the memory card door, the only place I've seen one available is amazon.com and the price is $59 plus postage... The piece is only two and a half inches by one inch and I'd hate to spend that amount of money on something so small.

So, with that in mind I was thinking along the DIY route and trying to find somewhere that sells sheets of rubber about 1/16th" thick that would do the job, the grain has a kind of a fine leather look to it.

Can anyone help me at all?

Donchya love paying out the nose for a $5.00 piece of material made in China?

As a machinist it pisses me off immensely that I know how much this stuff costs to make, and how I pay to the f***** chinese, simply because the profit margins aren't there to do it here(or in merry olde England).

It can be done, as in manufacturing in our own countries, but like you say it's all about a profit margin...

So Nikon stopped selling parts to consumers two years ago? No wonder that little rubber piece is so expensive then, must be some old stock and they've bumped the price up

I'd still like to go the DIY route though, any ideas?
