I spent a whole hour on the phone with this guy and we didn't even insult each other. He isn't living up to rumored behavior!!!!!! The only thing that happened is we exchanged some notes on some car projects and talked about the second world war...(or third world war according to John..with compelling reason)

I suggest that the time period from roughly 1750 to 1815 to June 1815, or from the Seven Year's War to the end of Waterloo, that in that time period Britain and France in ever reshuffled coalitions fought world wide...They fought in Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, the West and East coasts of India, in the Caribbean, in North America....and at seas everywhere.

The results set the stage for the next 100 years, and saw the eventual rise of Prussia as a Great Power which led to German Unification (and we know the rest: 1870, 1914, 1939).. it saw both France and Britain fighting by proxy even further afield and both being stretched so thin they could spare little support for their huge but nearly "empty" (except a remnant of the local indigenous population) colonies in North America, and both in rapid succession, lost their colonies: France to military victory by Britain, Britain by revolution begun in April 1775 and assured by the support of France in 1778, Spain in 1779..And the French paying for our Revolution, supplying us with arms and a Navy, stationing 25,000 troops in Connecticut--which effectively tied up the overwhelming bulk of British troops in North America in Boston and New York, led to the bankruptcy of all of France, peasantry, middle class, and aristocracy--only the Church having any capital--and that led to Louis calling for Parliament and that led to the Revolution in July '89.

I suggested the in terms of TIME of course everything happened slower...marching pace, sailing ship pace, 3 or 4 rounds per minute (4 if you were Prussian..) In terms of numbers of troops engaged in fighting, battle dead, died of wounds etc the numbers were comparable to WWI..
France had then 20% of the population of Europe or around 25 million, only 6.5 million in the British Isles. Early British industrialisation and military and political prowess led to Britain, that little Island, dominating the world economy for a hundred years..

OK. I can see that. Didn't include the American continents, but none of the world wars have included Antarctica either.
