This isn't Merkur or even automotive related. Those of you interested in aviation have probably heard of Bob Hoover. For those readers that haven't heard of Bob Hoover, had events been only slightly different, today we'd recognize him as the first man to break the sound barrier instead of his good friend and colleague, Chuck Yeager. Hoover died earlier this week at age 94. According to the article below, Hoover was "among the most renowned and enduring test and airshow pilots in history."
I first saw him perform back in the mid to late '70s. I may have seen him flying his P-51 Mustang, but I KNOW I saw him fly his aerobatic routine in his Rockwell Shrike Commander (a twin engine business plane, now on display at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum's Udvar-Hazy Center near Dulles Airport).
