As an alternative to OE Ford, there's a Mazda car/Ranger truck stud that fits well. Available in aftermarket. 12.95 knurl, 12.7 shoulder, 42.4 overall. The NAPA part number is 641-2197. This stud has the advantage of giving an extra 3-4 threads of engagement on the front wheels over the OE part, which IMO is probably okay for normal street driving, but too short for spirited motoring peace of mind.

While digging around in the posts for some other project I am working on I stumbled across the following information in another thread. The post was actually made to IMON, I just cut and pasted it into the MCAF last year sometime. Of course this topic comes up from time to time, so here it is for review prior to going to the FAQ section.

You will notice in the link Grayson and i were discussing the napa wheel studs I had pictured and the length of the shoulder or un-threaded portion. The napa units 641-2792 would be suited for an aftermarket wheel replacement but not necessarily a stock replacement. I would still like to hear from those using the napa 641-2792 and see how those fair with stock wheel equipment.

If you are motorsport oriented and want to actually make something stronger while you're going to all the trouble of searching and putzing around changing things seems we, as usual, have examples from Ford Motorsport of a better solution: M14 x 1.5 and in high hp appications a 3/4" or 19mm straight sleeve to fit into the steel insert in the wheel----so you're sending forces thru the straight shoulder and not sending all drive and braking loads thry the narrow 2-4mm cone of contact on the lug nutsDPDISXR4Ti wrote:If you are motorsport-oriented or have a need for longer studs due to spacers, take a look at the following item:

Now that's the ultimate, the 14mm and the straight sleeve and matching steel inserts in the the wheel.
Seems baffling to me that there are those here who claim to be big experts on suspension and "racing" and no talk of something as common and useful as at least the 14mm studs .
Note that some wheels you might have to chase out, but that's worth it for the huge increase in strength when you have 33% more area in the stud between 12mm and 14.

You can see the lug nuts I also got a little way down, though Compomotive is sending me some new studs with the new wheels as well.

The MC2 ARP once have worked well thus far however and are fine for 99.8% of Merkurs probably and will likely remain on my spares.
