Junkyard Shopping List - Feel free to contribute

Somebody once suggested that I should write up a list of items to get at the junkyard for your Merkur, that you might not otherwise think of. I figured I sure don't have all the answers, so this should be a "community effort". The idea here is to NOT include items from a Merkur - it should be obvious that items from a junked Merkur should fit another one. Let's NOT even cover here items that can be swapped between a Scorpio and XR - too many of those. Okay, I'll start it off...

'79 - '93 Saab 900 radiator with fan(s)
Pre '87 Ranger wheel studs (longer than stock)
'85 - '87-ish Nissan 300 ZX Turbo Compressor housing
'80's Mazda RX7 & Nissan sentra brake booster check valve (similar one found on '86 - '92 Toyota Supra)
'87 - '89 F150 or E150 (van) external fuel pump (p/n E7TF-9350-AA)
late 80's/early 90's 4-cyl Volvo heads (8V & 16v)

do you wanna list the obvious big vam and chip and stuff?

VAM and ECU from '87/'88 Thunderbird TurboCoupe or '86 SVO. (should be intercooled if you're going to use this combination!)

How about just random stuff that fits?

TC wheels (with slight modifications)

Tempo front springs (pull them out of a V6 model... slightly stiffer than stock XR springs)

Ford 5.0L (or 3.8L) CFI fuel pressure regulator - Can be used as a stock replacement or turned into an adjustble fuel pressure regulator.

Ranger Roller camshaft - Can be found in Ranger as well as Mustang dual plug heads.

Pontiac Fiero - Manual rack can be used with modification

1993+ Ford Ranger valve cover gasket, has metal insert.

Gates part # 20459 / Dayco part # 70416 - Replacement Turbo outlet to Throttle body hose, requres cutting.

Ford Thunderbird - V6 motormounts, Work as replacement requires modification.

BMW Driveshaft guibo - Can be used on XR4Ti Part# 103-2103

Scorpio ABS - The Teves II system can be found on the TC, Lincoln Mk VII and some GM vehicles of the same vintage. The actual MC is a different arrangement on each car, but some parts interchange, such as pressure bulb or the pressure switch (note- connectors can vary).

Everybody knows the Saab 96 was5 on 170mm, sheesh!
and the 99 was 4 on 4 1/2"
and the 900 was UP THRU 87 was also 4 on 4 1/2"

The ones which work are Saab 9000 from 1985 on and possibly some versions 900 from 88 on.

And the ever popular Puegoet 205, 309, 206 etc.

Which of those has an offset that's gonna work? For example, the Pinto has an old-school, negative offset, doesn't it? Deffo grab the low-mount alt. bracket, though.

2.3T serpentine brackets, Ranger 2.5 blocks, SVO/TC/2.3 'Stang trannies, Capri driveshafts, not sure on the specs. There are lots of IC cores that are worth grabbing also, as we all know. 8.8 difs, BMW 5-series difs; lots of stuff.

Here's a couple items everybody should have as spares in their gloveboxs - first, it's the EEC Relay, attached to the bracket which is attached to the back side of the glove-box.

A '89 - 95 (MN12) 3.8 T-Bird/Cougar uses the same relay, though I'm not sure of it's use there. It can easily be found in the small relay box under the hood (driver's side, up front).

Second, is the fuel pump relay. A late 80's/early 90's BMW can be the alternate donor (possibly other Euro cars). It's a light green Bosch relay - probably better than original - it's all I use any more.

Some coolant tank info...

Saab 900 and 9000 use the same coolant/washer fluid level sensor as Merkur. The quick connector is different, but that's easy enough to "convert".

New info discovered today.... late 80's Jaguar XJ6 also uses the same coolant level sensor (not sure about washer fluid reservoir). The Jag coolant reservoir is long and narrow, designed to be mounted north-south. Might be useful for some custom-plumbed setup, while still using the stock sensor.

Which model years 5 series are they looking for? Now that Sean M. is doing his BMW E36 LSD diff conversion kits and E30 gear sets will swap in, I suspect E30s and E36s will start becoming good to look for too.
