Frag wrote:The other day I noticed the part you mentioned in your post about the Escort. However today I went to a different junk yard and found a triple bung pipe on a early 90's Escort with a 1.9. I found them located on the drivers side under the coil pack.

The tripple has what looks to be ECT. White ring sensor and something I have never seen before. It's simmilar to the ECT, ecept the brass arear is much larger and the plastic is green on the outside and orange on the inside.

Any idea if these are ECT. Are the cross compatable with different ECU's?
As Johnny suggested, the third one might be a fan switch, although generally those disappered from many cars in the 90's. It might also be a flow control valve, preventing warm coolant from reaching the heater core during warm weather.

Check the resistance on that ECT and compare it to the older style (the stock one found on the 2.3). My guess is that they have the same output, but clearly it's something that needs to be verified.

FWIW, the 2-bung unit I got out of the Escort has a purple-ring gauge sensor that looks identical to the infamous one used on the XR. No luck though - the resistance curve was totally different. :x
Standardize parts:shock: Why on earth would an American car company want to do that? It makes WAY too much sense.

I'm heading to the junkyard tomorrow. What size socket is needed to pull the non-oil cooler filter adapter off a 2.3L? I want to delete the factory oil cooler from my XR.

Don't worry, I'll be installing an air-to-oil oil cooler soon, I just want to simplify the coolant lines when I put the head back on. I am using turbo couple hard tubes and they were a major PITA when I put them on the first time. Plus those 90° hoses at the cooler sucked to get the hose clamps on.

I am pretty sure I noticed a T-fitting in the heater hose on a single plug EFI 2.3L Mustang that allowed a hose to wrap around to the lower intake. I plan on getting one of those as I attempted to make a T-fitting from hardware store parts and it was HUGE. So big and heavy I was worried it would eventually damage the heater core.

Are there any other vehicles that use the same ACT sensor/connector as the 87-88 Turbocoupes?

I used sillycone hose... If you cut the hard line that's down by the oil cooler, it'll give you a nice "T" for the 3/8" hose to connect to the heater hose 5/8" hoses. I put mine at the back of the valve cover.

Huh? :? I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Are you asking about the sandwich plate that comes off a Volvo?

Early 90's Taurus will have this. It's sitting up easily accessible. 1" deep socket or box wrench will do the trick.

Now that I am thinking about it, I answered my own question. Once I remove the stock sandwich plate, the oil filter threads right on.

I was confused thinking about the bolt that holds the sandwich plate onto the block. There is one for the turbocouple/SVO with external threads that threads the filter so it sticks straight out, then the one for the XR with internal threads for the 90° adapter. I had both when I originally put the engine together.

Upper radiator hose from I4 Tempo/Topaz (good fitment for Cossie/Saab "shortie" radiator)
Of course, you could buy one of these new too (God freakin' forbid  )

Hey Ian, do you recall what tools are needed to remove one of these? My recollection is that the screws are Torx-headed - probably something like T-30. :dunno

'90-'94 turbo Talon/Eclipse/Laser turbo intake rubber piping. The "accordian" part, when cut off to the correct shape, perfectly fits onto the stock turbo inlet and a big VAM.

Just cut with a razor knife and slap it on with clamps. Its really strong, so no issues with it being sucked closed(factory turbo car and thick).

91 Talon TSi, well modified, 5spd all wheel drive, runs 11's.

you need a torx driver for the two screws on the plastic brackets that come over the edge of the hatch and a 8mm socket for the 5 nuts under the spoiler itself. i think they were 8mm, there's a chance they could be 10mm.

the torx driver is either t25 or t30 i believe.

and who changed the url of the forum on me? it's taken me two days to figure it out.

He's talking about the change from www.merkurclub.com/forum/ to forum.merkurclub.com/forum/

As if you were blissfully unaware. ;)

Why would anybody retrieve coolant hoses from a junkyard??? That's just asking to be left stranded.

That happened awhile ago when the forums moved to a different server. I think it's been over a year :)
