Did you clean the ring between what I'm calling the insulator and the brass case?

Somewhat, yes. I think what you're seeing is the tarnished brass color come through. That "ring" is part of the brass case and not colored other than it's native metal color. The insulator is where the color is - white on mine; purple(ish) on Anglin's.

Ian found out a while back that the Cosworth tem sensor was a good match. PN yb0201. I never did order one but he said he was able to get them from cosworth USA.

Well the sensor electrically was the same but it did need a thread adapter in otder to fit the lower manifold.

It looks to be the same for all the Sierras. They call it a "violet ring". I did a look on RockAuto and they look like straight thread in the 16-18mmx2.0 range. Cost about $6, but shipping will be about $25. Might be worth it to purchase a bunch and sell.

You'll need a pipe bushing adapter to fit it to the XR lower intake. Hardware store brass 3/8" male x 1/8" female pipe bushing only about $3.

So I was looking around the other night and found a echlin sensor cross reference guide with some Ohm values in it.

3 domestically available posibilities are:

RESURRECTION!!!

So i had a temp gauge reading really low, Like in between the two bottom lines on the gauge. So i pulled the ECT guess what? f***** clogged! So i shoved an Allen wrench in there and broke all the crap loose, but i still didn't have satisfactory flow so i took the t fitting off. It was totally blocked on both sides of the sensor. So i cleaned all of that crap out. Then i moved to the intake, i took a standard #2 Phillips and stuck it in until the handle hit the manifold, when i started moving it around a chunk about the size of a quarter falls out. "HOLY CRAP THE INTERWEBS WAS ACTUALLY RIGHT!"

I haven't reassembled it yet but I'll update on my gauge operation after i put it back together and replace that hose.

UPDATE: cleaned everything some more and reassembled. I wouldn't say the gauge works correctly, but it now reads at or just above the two lines on the bottom of the range. It previously ran in between them, so only a slight improvement. I talked to my parts guy and the only Fmc purple ring sensor i could find was in az or co. Should i order the Ford part or an aftermarket replacement?
