Party in the Parking Lot! New Format for 2011

Post by DPDISXR4Ti » Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:03 am

As we all know, the parking lot is where everyone gathers Friday and Saturday nights, and the back lot at the Radisson is a perfect venue for us in that regard - even has an overhang in case the weather turns wet.

This year we're abandoning formality, and everything will be staged in the parking lot. Specifically, this means these two things get done from the parking lot:

Friday 8-10PM Goody Bag hand-out
Saturday 7-8PM Awards and Prizes

Since there won't be one big organized dinner Saturday, the options are all of your own choosing. Picking up pizza to-go on the way back from the fairgrounds is certainly an option, but if you want to organize small gatherings for dinner out somewhere, feel free. I'd suggest 8:30 if you're making reservations.

Party on... :headbang

How will voting for the cars go down this year?
Carlisle showfield awards on Sunday always seem to sort of echo Saturday nights MCA awards.
Plus there are always a handful of cars you see in the parking lot that never make it to the showfield...
Parking lot awards = MCA awards?
Showfield awards = Carlisle awards?

No change in the way Carlisle does their awards - that's entirely their deal, done as "people's choice" awards, for those who choose to bother filling out the ballot.

Increasingly we've tried to differentiate the MCA awards to have them NOT be focused solely on the cars but the people. These haven't been finalized yet, so if you've got an idea, feel free to suggest it. Personally, I think there should be a class for best "pickup truck" conversion. :D

And yes, someone who doesn't make it to the show-field would, in theory, be eligible for the MCA awards. But keep in mind, from a practical standpoint, the judges generally do their judging of the cars while at the show rather than while drunk in the parking lot.

Might be the only way to get that pick-up truck conversion award :P

Good point Mike!

I was thinking we should also have an award, "Most likely to have their car set on fire". I figure if I put the Pontiac Grand Prix nose back on I'd be a lock for that one.
