Well now that I'm putting down 350hps to the wheels with the new SM mods, which was 90hps more then the DSP build and hope to get another 50hps with E85, I needed the rear to sit down alittle more, so with 650lbs rear springs it feels alot better, the other thing is the XR now weighs in at 2410lbs and hope to see 60lbs more off the XR by the end of the month.

I was running 700lbs springs in the front but the XR weigh in at 2720lbs in DSP trim and with me in it, so with 850lbs springs in the rear. Thats what I won the Solo 2 National's with so it was hard to change but with 350lbs coming off the XR i thought that 350lbs front springs would be a nice try and see what happens, works pretty good but had alittle rubbing, so I may step it up alittle but I'm going to adjust the strut to see if I can slow thing down.

So when I weighed the XR this week, I was thinking that I should be close to 51 to 52% on the front but was I wrong, how about 54.3% not happy about that, I heard that taking 100lbs off the front of the car could be 1% difference, I'm not going to find that much weight, oh well so much for 50 50 weight balance.

A funny story, Chris Grayson and I were sitting around looking over the XR making sure she already to go for the 2009 National's, Chris asked how much gas was in the XR, I gave him an answer, he said, just add the 5gals you DA just to make sure. Well when I got home I found out I had 12gals of gas in her and that was after running 12 runs at the National's (60 sec plus runs) 72.88lbs makes a difference. For the better.

I run 450lb up front and 650lb in the rear but my car is a bit heavier. I do have some 375lb springs and a cosworth size front bar I have been meaning to try. I need tires and a limited slip before I do much else as I am way over powering the tires now.

Ben, are you still running without a rear bar? Are you limiting rear travel at all?

I'm still unsure what size tire I ultimately want to run. Of course a 285/30r18 Hoosier would be awesome, but I really want to refrain From cutting the car up, especially the front bumper? I put the 17x8 et38 wheels up front and I'm going to have to run a minimum of a 5mm spacer for sufficient strut clearance. if I can manage a 245/40r17 on these 17x8s I'll be happy, but I'm still thinking about a 15x9 with 275/35r15s.

I can't wait to see updated pictures of your car Ben. I found a gallery from you region that has a lot of on track pictures of your car and it always looks great. I hope someday I can be within a second or two of your times. Im still very much a n00b at autocross with a limited budget. For now I live vicariously through you and Ray. :)

I have a sway bar but it's not hook up yet, my plan is when I get the TSS rear STA's that I can try differnet set ups easier. I'm not trying to limit my travel in anyway, I think your wondering if my springs could come out of the pocket, or pull on the brake lines, in the 6 years I've had this car with no sway bar I have not had a problem of any kind.

The rear alignment on my car is -1.25 camber on both sides and 0 toe, the XR is loose only on medium speed turns can anyone guess why? :D it's a little slow in slaloms, so thats what I'm working on now.

Pic's of the lastest updates are coming because I think more interresting.

Summit racing.com it's best to call them, because are cars have a 11/16, 17.3mm, .085 shaft for the power steering pump.

Is that the single piston wilwood with the built-in parking brake? I have been thinking about that or the gm PBR from a Camaro to reduce some unsprung weight over the iron turbo coupe calipers.

Yep and so far I'm not very happy with it I may change it before the National's to something different.

Well it comes down to this, I find this funny in some ways. As you all know this was a top of the line DSP class car, after last year I decided that SM class would be more fun, It has been without the big cost so far.

List of mods so far

1. bo-port 1.1 cam
2. cosworth exhaust housing .48
3. cosworth 2dr intercooler
4. Merkur depot shorty radiator
5. T5 trans
6. CF hood w/vents (thank you Jeff Esteban)
7. new front & rear springs
8. dyno time

Thats it, all of a 4200.00 investment over 8 months, of course I may have about 1000.00 in stuff I now don't need but I'm working on that but all in all a good deal.

Parts I hopeing for:

1. TSS STA's
2. Penske struts & shocks (it's looking like next year)
3. aluminum Head
4. esslinger intake manifold
5. GN compressor housing

and some other little stuff to make the XR faster. I like building the car for one and find the parts. Turbo cars still throw me off some, meaning I'm sure theres little things that could make a big differance in the engine and tuneing but it's fun just keep up with the Joneses.

Now if you guys having anything on the wish list you would like to talk about, you could be involved in a winning team/co-drive at the National's.

I haven't driven it at an event yet, I've been pacing for days now and I still have 2 week before the next event.
