I think most of us have done 100 at some point or another in our XRs, wondering who has done more... and how much.
My fastest is 117 and I didnt push more because it was night time and I still had some serious suspenion vib gettin on muh front end, and my brakes hated me after BUT...
How much have you X-roken the law?

Not in a Merkur but I was chasing some 14 year old illegal Mexicans from Detroit that has stole my girlfriends 1990 Mustang GT with my own 85 GT. At the time my 85 still had 3.45 gears and ran as quick as 12.80's ........well after chasing them for about 10 miles we passed a cop in a parking lot shooting radar doing 134mph.I backed off then, the kids crashed the 90GT and later back at my girlfriends house me and the cop had a good laugh.

I've driven my Ford Taurus spedo maxed at 120 and still accelerating for a minute or two. I slowed down when the car was shaking so much that I thought I had messed up a piston. It was fine, but it caused me to look around for why the car was pitching about so much, and I discovered that I needed new shocks and struts (not because of the speed, of course, but because of a collision).

Somewhere around 180 on my bike. Can't be sure of the exact speed because the speedo sucks and its kinda hard to read going that fast but thats what the gearing is good for and the motor was wound out. Doing 100 on that thing feels like about 55 in a car but anything above 130 feels every bit of it.
Many moons ago the racer, back in its road car days, went 131. The car was a little too exciting. The WRX proved capable of 115 in the rain on the back straight of Mid-Ohio even though I was braking at about 1000 feet from the Esses because I still had on the stock pads.

With a good 20 knot tailwind 20psi and an M5 trying to give me crap..I got the XR to just on the high side of 6000rpms in 5th...just shy of the hash mark break...the M5 finally backed off...it was eerily smooth...I do remember how fast the car slowed down when I backed off...as if i'd hit the brakes.
On a bike I did an indicated 145 on a Honda CX650 Turbo, behind a fairing no less...out on Highway 50 west of I-15...that was in the daytime...the telephone poles DO become a picket fence! lol!!

Same thing, same car, but a 2000. I went a little bit over 140mph (240kph, or 150), but I have no idea if the speedo is reliable at that speed. But it went there without any fuss whatsoever.xr4man wrote:2001 saab 9-3 viggen, 140mph. felt like 65. so smooth.
I had a previous plain jane Saab NG900 (the GM model) that went to 120mph (barely!), but it was a nerve-wracking experience - the car barely touched the ground and a slight breeze made me change lane without any steering input. So I guess that deep front airdam really is useful!

I've done:
113 in a stock Ford Focus
125 in a chipped Ford Focus
135 in an F-250 7.3L Diesel
147 in a 2003 BMW M5
152 in a 2005 BMW M3
And 179 in a Pantera that had been heavily modified.
(Twin turbo charged 4.6L Dual overhead cam Ford Mustang motor making about 450HP or so)
I was not driving the Pantera. We were on the 15 Freeway Northbound at about 4AM. We had just hit the 15 from the 91 when my buddy noticed that there wasn't anybody else on the road for miles in front of us or behind us. This was in 1996 I think so there wasn't as much traffic as there is now.
The two speed runs in the BMW's were so smooth that it didn't feel like we were moving that fast at all. I was completely amazed. The BMW Tech that was in the car with me was completely underwhelmed.
