the silver one is a 5-year old repaint...there are holes that the carpet can be felt through the length of the car on both sides, its automatic, and the rear suspension mounts are rotten, looks nicer tham the white car to look at, but the white one is original paint. And been undercoated, floor and rockers and underneath is solid.

Lookin good so far man. I never think about how cold it is around the rest of the world when people have to work on their cars. I hate changing my oil when its 50 degrees. Couldn't imagine anything colder. Do you have a heater in your garage?

California eh? Eff you. lol.

Yeah there's a heater in the garage; but silly me in the fall I dropped the Rapido front suspension to go in the silver car, and it also donated a rear wheel bearing. Its tough to move a car around with one wheel. Especially in the snow.

At least now that the block is out, the rest of the work on it can be done in the garage. Its -11 right now, it was colder last night when we pulled it. They should make tools with heated handles.

Don't have to imagine-- grew up in Chicago-- but yeah, I'm... not gonna tell you how nice it was here yesterday!

Looks like a nice lift, though. A while back I stopped pulling engines out the top-- pretty much take them all out from underneath any more.

I think it would have been easier to leave the tranny attached and pull it all out together, not a whole lot of clearance to get those top 2 bell bolts out. Oh well, I'm sure Ill be doing it again, learning for next time haha.

And yeah my girlfriend got me that hoist for Christmas, and the engine stand that I'll be putting the block on today. Shes the best.

Its -27 with the windchill today, thank god I'm woking inside on this from now on...I think I'll pick a warmer day to strip anything else off ther silver car. Maybe I'll wait till july.

Damage to piston 4 caused some scoring on the cylinder wall, but not enough to feel; shouldn't be a problem; I'm pretty confident this is a stok bore block (under 100000mi on the car) and going .030 over should make it go away.

I've found a complete rotating assembly kit to stroke it to a 2.5....anyone any experience with this? What kind of animal am I going to create here?

http://www.racerwalsh.zoovy.com/product ... C_KIT.html

It's between that and the boport pistons with the billet rods kit; but it doesn't say anything about what bearings, rings, etc it comes with, if any.

And a matched rotating assembly for little extra sounds pretty good to me....

Nothing wrong with taking the engine out on it's own, it's the way I've done it on all my RWD cars. Put them back the same way too, in fact, the only time I've put an engine and trans back as one unit was this engine :

in this car :

and guess what, the transmission had to come out again because I was having clutch release problems.

Now Mini engines, they can come out with the transmission because the trans is in the oil pan, sharing the same oil.
