89 wouldnt acclerate

Post by sic2706 »

hello Merkur forum... I need some help

i have a 89 5spd merkur. It has been garage kept most of its life and clean but after sitting on the last few months the previous owner use to go out and start and and just let it run.. I went to go look at the car and it will start perfect idle perfect and even rev up smoothly. When you go to take off it boggs down ( acts like when a carburetor loads up) and wouldn't accelerate causing dentation after starting to boost.....I have been told possible ECU..Vac leak. etc etc whats your thoughts

thanks

Could be clogged injectors, dirty fuel filter, low fuel pressure, dirty primary wire connections at the coil, VAM door sticking, vacuum leak(s)...

YMMV 8)

Check fuel pressure. Or simply swap regulators.

35psi when? At idle? With the vac line hooked up or not hooked up? Is pressure increasing 1:1? Hard data is better than what some random guy said.

You'll need a reader to pull codes.
No check engine lights.

Could be lots of things, so start with Nick's advise and pull codes first.
