I have an 89 Scorpio, had the rear diff serviced, then it started leaking fluid. Now, I hear severe knocking and clanking but no sound is made when I turn the wheels, no wobbling. I am looking for parts and advice. Most shops think that the entire rear diff should be replaced. I am wondering if their are any repairs that could be done, instead of getting the whole thing replaced. Can I find a rear differential for it?
Thx,
Rita

Re: Knocking noise in rear.
Could be an axle (half shaft)-these wear out long before differentials and make similar death noises.
YMMV
