My co driver for yesterday grabbed a short vid of me launch and then thru the first few gates... I do not normally take videos of my runs.

Turbo is GN cold side, upgraded 360 degree thrust journals, new CHRA; snap ring piston seal (hot side), cosworth turbine housing, stock hot wheel.

We actually just cancelled our next event - because they're paving the new road course. Ah, hell, yeah.

Nice exhaust sound Ray... sounds like a muscle car :-D.. What cam lift you got in there?

Ray, hope you dont mind me asking but...(by eyeballing) do you think those 17x9 with the 225 40 tires will fit with stock arches and fenders rolled on the rear? I have been trying to see if anyone has done it..

Thanks - it's a racer walsh cam (i have to get the specs but the lift is fairly high) with an essy head.
Those are 17x9's with 245/40 tires. I ran 275/40 for the past few seasons but went smaller to get more heat in the tires faster. Will they fit in the rear - yes, rolled with a 225. What's your ride height?

Not sure the height of the springs, I bought the car already lowerd , I do know they are eibach lowering springs navy blue.. I have now 17x7 25mm with 225 40 and I'm two fingers away from fenders (rear)..

Did you ever have these 17x9 on the stock arches with the 225 40 (rear)?

Thanks

Not with that size, but i did have 275/40 on the 17x9 while lowered. Spring rates were fairly high tho.

225 would be a bit narrow for a 9" wide wheel IMO. That would fit much better on a 7.5" or 8".

Ray, in your launch video above, what are you launching at? How much boost is it making?
Does it seem slow to spool cause of the GN cold wheel?

it was slow to spool as i feathered the throttle - if i planted it i would roast the rear tires (driver error). to be honest, my launch rpm is a bit high for my setup.

To answer your question - 2700rpm launch control. 3-4psi on the blip / blip / blip, jumps up on clutch out / engine loading.

The GN wheel / cossie hotside spool up fast.

Second to last event for the season was yesterday. As many of you know, I put autocrossing on the "back burner" as they say to focus on spending time with the kids this season, and much of last season. This was my first event since July.

To put things into perspective, i would try to make all 15 events in a given season. This year I attended 6.

Now, that strikes some as odd with the amount of work i put into the car over last winter...

The car yesterday was great. Fastest? No - i still have some turn in understeer that is probably alignment related, and the car is still a bit "loose" (but i like a bit of oversteer, personally). Power delivery is spot on, brakes are great, enough power to walk the rear end out thru second gear, etc.

Funny thing is we as merkur people have a reputation for braking something. I think I now know what it feels like to drive a Miata. While other people worried about temps or were replacing bits, my biggest concern was how much fuel I had left.

There is one more event this year, i might just make that one too. :) While I am way out of practice behind the wheel, the car at this point is designed to put a smile on my face moreso than take the win.

Oh, i took the win too. :cheers

That's sweet. Put some pics up if you find any.

Can't wait to get to that point, trusting that the car will make it through the event.

One question on wheels bearings. Does yours have some play in it? I tightened mine before last event and they got lose again. Ever have that problem?
