new focus RS
This could be a very sweet little hatch. I remember watching the top gear episode with an older generation focus rs, the new one will have awd, and come here to the US!

Sweet! I can't wait to start seeing these on the road. Ford has been making some really cool stuff lately.turboxr wrote:I'm ordering one to go along side the 3dr.

Re: new focus RS
It has me really reconsidering continuing to put time and effort into my XR. I have sooooooooooo many projects, and other things going on in my life that I haven't been able to give Naomi enough attention But I really can't justify letting her go just yet, as she's been in my life longer than my wife has.
But man, that Focus RS with AWD, and 300+ hp at the wheels. What's it weigh 3500lbs? Too bad it has all those airbags, if the weight could be brought down to XR territory it'd be even more fun. It's already basically the same size as the XR.
I may have to figure out how to get one of these, as I really hate FWD in the winter. This Fiesta even with traction control is absolutely terrible in any amount of snow. I give just a touch of throttle to get a little momentum, and Fiona starts sliding to the right. She's no where near as confident as Naomi with even summer tires, let alone when she had studded snows. I may yet buy studded snows for the Fiesta, we'll see.

Re: new focus RS
I'd rather drive my xr in the snow than my dad's fwd taurus. It has more grip, but once it looses it there's absolutely nothing that you can do to fix it other than hitting the brakes and praying. At least in the xr, even knowing I will have to drift every single turn almost, is controllable. Hills with snow on them are darn near impossible to get my xr up though, since I don't actually have winter tires, just all-seasons.
Driving my A4 with awd in snow is just a joy. Plenty of grip when I want it, but easy to slide around when I want as well.

Which up until I bought Fiona, I always had a RWD car. I had an Escort once and it had a manual trans, at least I could put it in 3rd to get going from a stand still. This Fiesta has an automated manual, but unfortunately the programming will not allow me to put it in anything but 1st when standing still. Sure I can manually shift it when I wanna have fun, but I can't shift it into 3rd in the winter...

Re: new focus RS
That sounds like hell! Yet another reason why I would always rather have a true manual. Engine braking in the mountains, or in the winter when you don't want to lock up, or when brakes fail while going 35, getting started in the snow, knowing your tranny won't downshift while going up hill in the snow, and just more fun. I hope it will be a long time before I am forced to get an auto.milehighXR wrote:This Fiesta has an automated manual, but unfortunately the programming will not allow me to put it in anything but 1st when standing still. When it comes to driving in snow, proper snow tires trump everything else... drivelines included.

Re: new focus RS
agreed, though i've never driven a car with snow tires. but going from near bald toyo eclipse tires, to new all seasons, even that was a world of difference. I just hate the feeling of driving a fwd car in a limited grip situation.John Brennan wrote:When it comes to driving in snow, proper snow tires trump everything else... drivelines included.

FWD is OK in snow, it's just about momentum and gentle inputs. Studded snows or chains are a revelation everyone should experience.

Baja Bug with paddles on the rear that would be amazing I bet in the snow.... Then throw some snow skis on the front and you'd have yourself a full on "Snow Bug".John Brennan wrote:Best snow car I ever had was my Baja Bug...boost_is_fun wrote:agreed, though i've never driven a car with snow tires. but going from near bald toyo eclipse tires, to new all seasons, even that was a world of difference.
