PCV Valve?
PCV Valve?
Hello everyone! My xr has recently developed an oil leak, and I just pinpointed it to the crank seal or some other front end seal behind the timing cover. I have read that PCV valves can pressurize the engine, causing seals to blow out, which would make sense in my application because it seems to be leaking a decent amount, and after I turn the car off I can hear it bubbling out of the seal. I went to check the PCV valve, but I could not find it. I am looking right behind the alternator and in between the head and the distributor. There is a mysterious looking hose-to-hose connection where it might have been before, so I took photos and uploaded them here. I think the previous owner may have deleted the valve. Does anyone know if this is possible or what he might have done? Thank you!

Re: PCV Valve?
Pull that apart. It looks like he may have hose clamped onto the PCV since it fits there into two different sized hoses.
Regardless, get yourself an OEM ONLY Motorcraft EV127A valve. Nothing else. No parts store brand stuff.
Is it blowing any oil out the dipstick?

Re: PCV Valve?
Thank you! Update: The PCV valve, as you pointed out, is not Motorcraft. It does work, however, and neither the valve or the hoses are clogged. Could the breather cause a leaky seal as well?

Re: PCV Valve?
It could, but I would replace the PCV valve anyway. I had one that worked great by hand...but blew oil everywhere when in the car.alexob53 wrote:Thank you! Re: PCV Valve?
Very well, I will replace with a motorcraft part! To check the breather, should I just remove it and look for a clog?

On the valve cover? I'd remove it and spray brake cleaner through.alexob53 wrote:Very well, I will replace with a motorcraft part! To check the breather, should I just remove it and look for a clog?
Re: PCV Valve?
I checked the breather and everything seems to be working properly. I ordered the Motorcraft part to replace the PCV, just so I know it's not a problem. I am thinking it might be that the seal/gasket is leaking simply because it is old. I'm going to replace the front crank seal and front cover gasket as well as the cam seal, and while I'm at it I might replace the valve cover gasket with the upgraded ranger one.

Re: PCV Valve?
Just a heads up on the upgraded ranger valve cover gasket, it isn't cheap. I called my local ford dealer to get one, $65.95, and he would've had to order it. I just went with a rubber fel pro one instead.

Re: PCV Valve?
You'll never need another. Sometimes it's good to spend a bit more for the right part. This is one of those times.Choochoochoo wrote:Just a heads up on the upgraded ranger valve cover gasket, it isn't cheap. Re: PCV Valve?
I found a Ford OEM gasket for the 2.3 ranger on amazon for $50 + free shipping. I will probably order that one, but if it doesn't work out there is a salvage yard I could check without much trouble. Thanks for the heads up and ideas!
