Gas
Humpty Dumpty is leaking gasoline somewhere in the back. To those of you who have experienced this, what did you end up replacing? Thanks.

Re: Gas
Well, where's it leaking from? In my case once, it leaked out of the top with a full tank. I dropped the tank, replaced the O-ring there, and done.

Paper thin metal tubing atop the sending unit. A place where no oil spray seems to reach...

Re: Gas
Yeah, tank was only 1/2 full so probably not the o-ring at the top
I'll let you know when I get to it... thanks.

Re: Gas
The most common place for the tank to fail is on the back, just above the seam, where the foam pads abrade the tank and rust it through.

( x 2 ) I've had many XR "beaters" and many I would never put more then 1/2 tank a fuel in for this reason.DPDISXR4Ti wrote:The most common place for the tank to fail is on the back, just above the seam, where the foam pads abrade the tank and rust it through.
Re: Gas
Did it start after putting in a high pressure in-tank pump? Mine had rusted through at the feed line. The OE rail high pressure would pull in more fuel than would be able to spray out to be noticeable. When putting in a Walbro, the high pressure in the tank would spray out the holes.

Re: Gas
It was leaking at the outlet of the high pressure pump. There is rust on the outlet. I got the inlet off ok but I had a hard time with the outlet. Finally it came off but a white plastic piece with two o rings is stuck on the pump outlet. the black potion of the connector is intact. Usually when I replaced fuel filters etc on the mustang these connectors did not come apart like this. Now a new line?

Re: Gas
I need a new line from the fuel filter to the fuel pump. Does anyone have a merkur graveyard that wants to part with one? I could try to make one but I'm not sure about bending the nylon this looks like it's factory bent. I can get a 90 new but then there is another 90 after that on each end. The first picture is of the line. Second picture is the good end (filter) and 3rd picture is the bad end ( pump). You can see its missing the center part.

Re: Gas
I have one I can send you tomorrow if you still need it. $10 shipped priority. It will probably take 3 days from San Diego.

Re: Gas
Too funny! I got a couple of fittings that look a little different, some tubing to bend in boiling water, and a "good luck" from the parts guy. He also said "It's too bad they came up with dumb ideas like this." then told me a story about some guy's plastic intake manifold going up in smoke. LOL!85xr wrote:check at the parts store. just take the line with you to compare. they have assorted sizes.
