Or did they all have flaps like that?

I thought I knew a decent enough amount about Sierra's but your XR's throw up another load of differences to learn.
The car was originally a 1987 Merkur XR4ti auto trans, no sunroof, which is exactly what I wanted for the conversion. Everything besides the petrol flap, tank, and brake booster are genuine sierra RS parts. Driveline came from a sapphire 4x4, US emission legal model. I didn't really want the RS500 bumper since I didn't have the rear spoiler to match but was in a pinch for time and it was all that was available...plus I got it at a great price.

Looks like a lot of 40r17 tires in here.... did anyone notice a major ride quality difference when going from the 15's with 60 height tires to the 17s with 40? my original idea was to go for 50r16 but the width I want (245 all corners) is difficult to find good tires. BF Goodrich sport comp 2's seem to be the only ones in that size i've consistently come across. So lately I've been looking into 17" wheels but didn't want that small of a sidewall...

That cossie conversion looks so good, WesP. whoever owns it now must be a really happy dude!

Moved from the XR forum:

I've tried to remember all the different wheel setups that I have personally run and fitment issues with them. I have punched all the data for those wheels into the willtheyfit.com calculator and have uploaded the print outs compared to the stock wheel.

Mustang 10 Hole 15x7. Stock Suspension. No rubbing. Car handled great.

Borbet Type T 16x9 Rolled fender lips. Coilovers. Extremely low. Notice the 300mm PBR's that clear.

Borbet Type T 17x7.5. Rolled fender lips. Coilovers,. 3" drop. Started as et 42, added 1/2" spacer. Roughly et30

Borbet Type A 17x8.5. Rolled fender lips. Coilovers. 3" drop.

O.Z. Fittipaldi 16x7.5. Same exact setup with the Borbet Type A's.

O.Z. Monte Carlo 17x7.5. About 1" higher than previous setup.

After going through all these wheel changes over the years I prefer the 16x7.5 O.Z.'s and they are going out for refinishing and will be put back on the car with a 205/50/16.

Special place in my heart for this car. MANY hours spent in it's company.

My 3rd XR, again, the Mullins wheels with (original) BFG KD. Those tires made me re-evaluate my suspension.
