New to the Merkur World
I drove my friends xr turbo in high school about 20 years ago and since then I've told my self if I ever find one for sale that I'd buy it. So I found one and now I'm trying to buy it. The car is an 88 Scorpio automatic, it runs a little rough but and needs some tlc but that's ok with me. Here are my first series of questions, Common things to watch out for?, Interchangeable parts between cars A4LD to T5 swap from 2.3 stang?(my friend build cars and has a few T5's laying around his shop along with clutch cables and peddle assemblies I believe i'll need a 2.8 bell housing from a ranger as well), front end swap, I need a 4 door (kids) but I love the XR4Ti cosworth hood scoops and grill. I've put my Audi build on the back burner for this car. Are my goals doable. I should have the car by Friday pending if my trucks sells.

A few Scorpioisms
1] Blue Battery icon light in instrument cluster; should be on at startup, but off when engine running. If lit during eng run, battery is not being charged. The bulb must be good, because charging circuit requires a operational bulb in dash.
2] Hood release cable can slip it retainer, make sure it's secure near hoods latch.
•] Get the Factory Repair Manual and Electrical & Vacuum Book
•] Scorpio uses standard OBD2 for codes

Re: New to the Merkur World
Thank you for all the welcome reply's. I'm still waiting on this guy to come by with the cash for my truck, then I will officially have the Merkur. Until then I've been trying to read up on as much as I can so i'm not a complete newb.

T5 Bell housing from a 2.3 Mustang will bolt on to the Merkur 2.3 block. Is the Merkur you have a manual already? If not then yes, you'll need a pedal assembly from a manual car.gcarter1985 wrote:...Common things to watch out for?, Interchangeable parts between cars A4LD to T5 swap from 2.3 stang?(my friend build cars and has a few T5's laying around his shop along with clutch cables and peddle assemblies I believe i'll need a 2.8 bell housing from a ranger as well), front end swap, I need a 4 door (kids) but I love the XR4Ti cosworth hood scoops and grill.
Talk to Mr. Blugg (Jeff Herson) at Merkur Parts Midwest, he's got the knowledge and the parts to make the manual swap happen if you're missing anything.

Its a Scorpio, not an XR, so its a 2.9 V6.dunhamr1 wrote:
