Downers Grove Cruise Night July 14

Post by eaton53 »

I will be trekking in from the hinterlands west of Kewanee to this Cruise Night on July 14.
Pretty sure some of you are in Chicagoland so if any of you are free...

Invading Chicagoland tomorrow!
Perfect weather for Friday night... my brother and sister in law have never been to one of these so it should be a lot of fun.

If I only had my car, I'd bring it over there. It's out getting the AC working.

Lots of good food around there too.

Is Ford the featured brand tomorrow night?

It's Independent-Orphan night.
But no GM, Ford or Chrysler orphans. Manufacturer must be dead, not just the brand.
It's '85 or older anyway for the featured cars.

Ah perfect for Merkurs than!

I'll see if my buddy is available with his XR, so yours isn't lonely.

I'm easy to find... just look for the Big Blue Merkur Flag. :cheers

Great show, GPz made it (not his car) it was good to meet him.
One guy told me he has been going to this Cruise Night for years and it was the first Merkur he had seen.
I wasn't actually on the street (it got full fast ) but in an adjacent parking lot.
But could easily see the Big Blue Merkur Flag from the street so many people came by.

Another highlight was a guy in a '59 Saab pointing and saying "Hey, a Merkur!!"
Sure sign your car isn't common when a guy with a '59 Saab points and says "Hey, a Merkur!!".
There were a LOT of people taking pictures. And some guy with a YouTube channel videoed me.
We'll see how that went (if he puts it up) because I'm not really an on-camera kind of guy.

The bad news is I left my brother's house to go home and got a mile and a half before it failed to proceed.
So, it's back at my brother's house while a visit to Jeff's shop is being planned.
There is no Merkur specialist anywhere near me, so I plan to take advantage of this opportunity to make lemonade out of lemons

Since it broke on a Saturday, it was taken to my brother's house in Woodridge.
Flatbed to N.Chicago is all lined up and ready to go, price isn't as bad as I thought it would be.
It's going to Jeff on Monday and he'll have it for a week. The following Monday I'll pick it up and have another go at getting it back here.

He's also going to look at my turn signal / cruise switch.
He has one of these unicorn items, but needs a car with working cruise to test it on. I have one.

Well, after our goof flatbed driver took 3 hours to make a one hour trip by navigating to the wrong city, my XR has reached Jeff's place.

It started after sitting for a week. Still gotta figure out why it quit.
Unfortunately, Jeff's switch was bad... no blinkers. But I got one from Mike that's good.
