Turbo Studs! Which ones to use?

Post by Matt01 »

Hey Everyone.

I used Napa cheapo studs when i changed my manifold, and 1 of them has broken off inside, the other ones have loosened up.

What studs/bolts do you guys use on the turbo?

thanks

From manifold to turbo, or turbo to wastegate, or wastegate to downpipe?

Mostly, I use Saab parts.

SS studs, and double nuts.
Cleat put together kits long ago, been using them ever since. Get the GOOD Anti-seize.

Its really the turbo to manifold i have problems.

I have seen without reference to it specifically, people using cummins studs.

After looking, the last time I did this (in '12) I used hardware from ATP Turbo. Been five and a half years, so far so good:

Using the right nuts is just as important as the right studs - they need to stay put but still be able to be removed. ;)

Cummins stud - 3818823
Nut - 3818824
Gasket - Nissan 14415-4P200
Ford TA-31 sealer

Studs, although I don't think they are really $63...

Screw that, see here instead...

Those nuts look to be copper. Correct?

Copper coated, yes. Small locking head copper coated nuts. They stay put but come off when they should.

They are not cheap but well worth it.
