New to MCA ......

Post by Black-Out »

Hello everyone!

My name is William, I just registered with the forum and I figured I would stop off and say hi. Although new to the forums I am not new to the Merkur brand, specifically the XR4. I have had a few and have been in love with these cars since I first laid eyes on a Sierra RS Cosworth back in the 80's watching Andy Rouse and Steve Soper go at it. I have had my current XR4Ti for 18yrs. I'm the second owner of it and though she's not pretty now, but I am slowly working to change that, one nut and bolt at a time. I'll never get rid of that car. In pimp speak, she's my bottom bitch. I have a lot of cars but I can't get away from the XR4Ti. Just love it too much. I know this community is going to be a huge resource for me, so let me take the time out to say thank you to each and everyone of you within this network for your contribution to the forums, as without all of you, guys like me would still be trying to go at this solo. It's not impossible, but let me tell you it makes my life a ton easier having car guys (and gals) I can relate too! I'm pretty much the only one around my area besides my friend who also has an XR, I just rarely get to see him, so it really feels like it's just me. I sure he feels the exact same way though-

Welcome Aboard, we always wonder how many there are like you out there that we just don't know about. Pull up a log, grab a beer, and tell us where you are, for starters! :cheers

Welcome! :cheers

The list of cars in your signature sounds like my place. I have a mono black 1989 XR that will be with me forever so I completely feel where you're coming from. I might have to go to urban dictionary and look up bottom bitch, to be sure though :o

Thanks John! I'm In Pflugerville Texas just north of Austin. Lived in Austin for 12yrs and it started getting a bit too busy for me there so I had to get a little bit out of dodge but just stay close enough I could still get back and fourth to work. I'm actually from Columbia Missouri though.... lol My family has just always made trips back and fourth to Dallas metroplex, Houston and Austin for years. My father decided it was time to come to Texas when he retired back in 95,' and I stayed behind for a couple years, then came to Austin to go to school. Loved the car scene so much here I never left.

 Thanks Mike! Yea man they can pry the Merk from my cold dead fingers.......lol Bottom bitch is pimp speak for your first lady. She wasn't my absolute first lady, but she was the first lady that I wanted to have. As soon as I saw the RS Cossies doing their thing over seas I was deeeep in love. haha. But then again I have never been one to like much of the ordinary. Newer cars turn me off. Rev matching for you, stopping for you, push a button to shift it, push another button to park for you, each time the car starts doing things for the driver it removes you further and further from the driving experience, and it reduces the skill necessary to be a fast driver. That's always bothered me. I'm an enthusiast and I spent years chasing cones, before going into iTE,T1,T2 GT-1. Older cars are where my heart is. I like being the only one to roll up to a meet in something that no one really knows what it is, or has ever really seen. A lot of the younger kids that come over to see my son walk up to the XR or my Conquest and ask what they are, or they played just enough Forza to recognize the car's silhouette, but they still don't have a clue as to the cars' history or its origins. A lot of them who don't know anything about the XR, are shocked to find out that its a rear drive and turbocharged. I just love cars that need a driver to make them achieve what they are capable of.....

Well said. I agree with you there, for sure. Old enough not to be overwhelmed by whiz-bang technology or festooned with gadgets, but new enough to perform well. 😎

At least your E-series is from after their use of the SBC brake system. I work on my neighbor's 2005 E350 and it's a nightmare.

There are a few other Merkur MCA members in Texas: Cleburne, El Paso, Kerrville, Simonton & Sugar Lane.

I been blessed with the W212 E-Class. Its been largely problem free. The worst thing I've had happen to me so far has been the blower motor failure. They ain't cheap to replace, at $482.00 but for the quality of parts I don't question it. The cheap Chinese copies are garbage.

I'm also in Texas, DFW area! Was just in Austin last weekend even (unfortunately not with the Merkur). Don't be a stranger, let me know if you need parts!

Dude that's awesome! Sorry for the late reply, my job has me jumping all over Texas right now, especially with the stunts people have pulled here recently. If you have parts I'll definitely look you up. I have been chipping away at the XR and have been trying to get things lined out one by one so I can get on with the tune and get it running the way she should. I'll be looking for some body parts and a few other things. Maybe some interior parts as well but I haven't decided where I'm going with that yet. either way thanks a bunch! Lord knows I need the parts lol.....
