Fuel tank fuel line retainers

Post by mesa »

Any one know the size for the retainer clips at the fuel tank? Napa and Ford dealer doesn't have a clue and that is what I found at rockauto as a doorman circle retainer clip the one that comes out with the special tool https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.ph ... 0425&jsn=7 is this the right size?
Thanks

Try looking on Dorman's site directly. ID of those lines are 5/16 but im not sure what the ID of the clip should be.

That isn't the right retainer for the fuel lines, this is a picture of the correct ones...

the black thing to the left of the pump is the retainer, there is also a white retainer
as well, but hard to see in the pic...

The return line to the fuel tank has the circle retain clip, the supply line has the one that is open and you can take with a screwdriver not the special tool.

Just wondering what size to order

from another thread:

http://forum.merkurclub.com/forum/viewt ... 780#p71590

"The supply lines are 5/16" and use 3/8" rings, the return lines are 1/4" and use 5/16" rings."

At this age, definitely replace any of the duckbill clips you remove! I reused my supply line clip at the fuel pump connection and blew the line on the road a few miles after changing the fuel pump out. not fun.

Not all Ford dealers lack a clue, however these aren't listed in the Merkur catalog. Luckily they are in the Taurus cat.

Per the dimensions in the other thread found by cmouta part #s through Ford are as follows.

3/8 : 2F1Z*9A317*BA and is black in colour
5/16 : 2F1Z*9A317*AA and is cream in colour

The o-rings are also not listed in the catalog anywhere that I can find.

Cheers!

Both a packet of the two clips and the fuel line O-rings are/were available on Advance Auto Parts store racks. Standard Ford fuel line items. I've bought each there.

YMMV

Ditto Ed. Good items to replace when servicing the fuel system, especially at the rail where they are exposed to heating and cooling of the engine bay (over 30 years).

FWIW, I've always used screw drivers carefully to remove these. Wonder how much nicer the proper tool is.
