Photo of the rear seats folded?

Post by MarkM »

I've gotten an inquiry about how flat the rear cargo area should be with the rear seats in an XR folded down. There were also some associated questions about the process for folding it down. I passed on the instructions from the shop manual, but if someone would be kind enough to post a few photos of the rear seats folded down and maybe the steps in the process, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Pull the seat bottom forward first by those black straps at each end, then the seat backs fold pretty flat.
If you don't flip the bottoms up first, the seat backs won't lay flat.

Well, I just learned something. I didn't know the seat bottoms flipped up.

Would leaving them this way when the car's not being shown be a good way to protect the seats from the sun?
The top of the back seat gets hit pretty hard by the light coming through the rear window.

Any means of keeping sunlight off the seats is good. Might I suggest tinting the rear half of the car? Keeps glaring eyes away as well.

No modifications are allowed, so this newfound method would be ideal.
My new, bigger, stronger flagpole won't fit in the wayback, so I have to fold down the small section of the back seat to transport it.

Buy a couple Dollar Store foil sun screens. Put one over the rear seat tops when parked; put another (or two) on seat leather that gets sun exposure.

YMMV

Loaded up my show car stuff today.
Turned out that the pole fits best if I fold down the back (on the big side) and leave the seat alone.
It creates enough of a gap that I can run the pole diagonally from left rear to right front.
It barely fits, but it is in.
