WTB - 1988 XR4Ti - Black Preferred
Hi All,
I'm new to club, and I'm trying to pick up a boosted Ford platform to have some fun with.
Already have a Mustang, so I've kinda got my mind set on the lesser known Merkur XR4Ti.
I looked at one last weekend, and the underside was too rusty for my comfort zone.
If anyone knows of a running XR4Ti up for sale, send me some info.
I'm in the Louisville area as a reference.
Must Have:
- Manual transmission
- Sunroof
Wish List:
- Black
- Rust free
- 1988, (w/o biplane spoiler) I'm planning to install an rs500 spoiler

Re: WTB - 1988 XR4Ti - Black Preferred
How about black with a coyote motor and RS 500 wing. $30,000
Re: WTB - 1988 XR4Ti - Black Preferred
Not really looking for anything heavily modified.
Just something that is running, and mainly stock.
Looking to make a project out of this, rather than buy someone's finished project.
Its gotta have the 2.3L. My 5.4L is all the Mustang I'd want.
From what I can gather, a roadworthy XR4Ti, with some quirks, can be had for 5000 or less depending on condition?
Great low mileage examples push north of that?

I may end up selling my 85. Black with gray leather interior - driver seat multiple cracks, the rest good. Body and frame nice. It has 4 speed AT (A4LD), but I have parts needed for manual swap, except tranny and clutch. Some mods: Big VAM, IC, 3" exhaust, SVO ECU, upgraded brakes and suspension.
Let me know if interested, I can send you some pics.

I think so. $5K shouldn't really have too many quirks.
There's a great example going across the block today, so we'll see how much it gets.

Re: WTB - 1988 XR4Ti - Black Preferred
$5k should buy an extremely nice, stock (or lightly modified) XR4Ti with low miles and ZERO quirks.
None of us like the fact these cars are not worth near what they should be worth...however still an excellent opportunity if you are shopping for one.
I've sold many Merkurs $1,500-$2,500 that were driven home (many states away) without issue.
(Nothing on hand for sale right now, sorry).

Curious about this...Also, did you do the A4LD swap on it?Andy82GT wrote: ↑Mon Oct 07, 2019 12:01 pm I may end up selling my 85. Is that Mike's rebuild? If so, how do you like it?

Not my A4LD set up. I do know this car, though ( almost bought it years ago ).
Dave at Hartwood does good work.
Re: WTB - 1988 XR4Ti - Black Preferred
I like it better than a C3, and has nice hard 1-2 & 2-3 shifts. But I would rather have a 5-speed. Got all parts for swap except tranny/clutch.
If I don't sell it this winter, might do it in the spring...
