Apparently Im stupid.

Post by espacef1fan » Mon Dec 30, 2019 11:35 pm

I don't learn my lessons.

I'm on my third XR4ti and now have decided I should totally get a Scorpio. I found an 89.

It doesn't run and the interior is a mess.

What's the worst that could happen?

You can't get it to run and the interior stays a mess??
Hopefully it costs you very, very little to get 'er running and cleaned up.

I haven't actually picked the car up yet. It's in Peoria. I do that next month on the weekend of the 18th. I'm sure getting it to run won't be too bad. The interior seems "partially disassembled with a pile of extra stuff in it" in the pictures.

I can't complain, the price was right. Just kidding I'll complain a lot once I'm wrenching I'm sure, haha.

It'll take a backseat to my XR project but I'm thinking I can tinker this thing into roadworthy status over time (while waiting on XR parts or waiting for funds for XR parts).

That's the problem with being an enthusiast... you focus on what you can do and not what you should do. :P

I second that, and guilty as charged.

I had an '89, black. Bought it used. Drove it for a few years then the wife ran a red light and t-boned a delivery truck square in the rear axle. I don't think it even scratched the truck, but bent the frame on the Scorpio.
Fairly cool car, but that 2.9 was notorious for having cracked heads...…...I found that out once it cracked one and I got to doing some research on it.

When you get it going, I've still got a set of nice Borbet 5-spoke wheels that I had on it for a really short time. I pulled them off when I had it towed away for scrap.

Sooner or later XR guys end up adding a Scorpio to the stable. Totally normal (to us, at least).

I wanted to buy the Bonhams car, but the wife shot me down! :banghead
Oh well... I guess I'll just have to buy something that costs 10X as much instead...

I may be interested in those depending on what they look like.(style wise)

Its my understanding the cracking was more a consequence of overheating instead of the Lima which cracks because lima.

True, and the remedy is easy since the later ('89+) heads are improved and less prone to cracking.

Yep. After three XRs, I got a Scorpio. It actually has been on the road a few times as well. Reminds me, I need to get in touch with Bob and get my free year. I just got it licensed, before it was borrowing my XR license to test some things on it.
