[SOLD] 1985 XR4ti V8 Conversion For Sale in Denver, Colorado

Post by Jobubba »

This car was converted to a V8 in 1989 by Rapido Group. It has Cosworth rear wing, grill, wheel arches/sills and hood louvers. I have all of the paper work and build receipts and much more. I can email pics etc. if you are interested.
The car is red.

Being done by Rapido, I presume it has fuel injection. Does it have aluminum heads? Any other details about the car? Asking price?

Wow never knew Rapido did any V8 conversions. Sounds rare. Why not put it up on cars and bids with 100 really nice pictures that would be cool. If it's 1 of 5 made or something like that it could go really high.

It is Fuel Injected, I have some old "Rapido Gazette" newsletters with this car in it.

The car went to Rapido in 1989 with 32k miles. At that time the fuel injected 5L engine and 5 speed transmission were installed. Some of the other items Rapido installed as follows: Rapido/Monroe suspension; 150 mph speedometer; Viscous limited slip diff.; Le Carra steering wheel; Rapido drive shaft and much more. The value as shown in an accounting from Rapido was over $30K parts and labor. In 1997 the car was sent to a Michigan Mercury dealer where a new 5L SVO crate motor was installed with GT-40 heads and B303 hydraulic cam. This is when it was painted red. The 150 mph speedometer has about 42K miles on it since installed in 1989/90. The later motor has less than 10K on it.
Not sure what to ask for price. Russ at Rapido suggested starting at $10K but I will entertain any serious offer.

I need to make a correction to the Sep 26 description. The speedometer/odometer shows about 42k miles not 30K miles since installed. Sorry about that didn't mean to mislead anyone.

As I suspected, you have a rara avis, not only in this community, but reaching out to the larger car market. It deserves to be handled either professionally, or with great care. This of course is assuming that it's in good shape.

Pictures would be a great help and you might be low on the price. My 302 swapped XR has been appraised at $22k. Yes I know I won’t get that in trying to sell it but still it might give you a better idea on price.

I think the sale is in the early stages as more members become aware of it. I have sent pictures to Email questions and Mark with the Forum will post pics on the site. A serious buyer will need to see and drive the car. I honestly hope to sell to a Merkur devote who can fit it into his life. I have had 20 great years but it is time for this XR-8 to find a new home. Thanks so much for your help.
