86 XR4Ti

Post by nbowen74 »

Hello, ive been looking around for some sites with performance parts for this car (internal/external) and i am just having a hard time finding upgrades for it. It has been sitting since 98 and hasnt run since then, but once i can finally get it down here im pulling the motor out and doing a full rebuild. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Rather than single out one or two of our club sponsors over the others, I'm just going to point you to a page with all of them. There are links at http://www2.merkurclub.net/pages/resources.html and I can say I'm comfortable with recommending any of them. They've all been around for years and have good reputations. That said, the inventories and areas of specialization do vary between them, so you may well find one or two in particular have most of what you're looking for.

Upgrades for the engine or the car itself? Or both?

http://mc2racing.com/products/xr4ti/index.html have many suspension / bushing options

http://merkur.50megs.com/ Front and rear brake upgrade kits, exhaust kits, upgraded radiator/intercooler kits, upgraded hoses, etc.

http://merkurmidwest.com/id3.html Cosworth body parts, T5 transmission swap parts, brake upgrades, and pretty much everything inbetween

http://rapidogroup.com/ engine kits, intercooler kits, exhaust kits, suspension kits, transmission kits + more

https://www.stinger-performance.com/ exhaust kits, ECU kits, etc.

My website https://www.merkurdepot.com only shows about 5% of the parts we carry. Please message directly merkurdriver@gmail.com for any parts needs / questions.

Was there something wrong with the engine before it was parked? I'd just get the darned thing running before yanking it out.

It's pretty dangerous to pull an engine and have the car down that long. (Dangerous in that the longer the car sits w/o a major component like an engine, the greater the chance it will never run again.)

Just get it running/driving. You'd be impressed how well these engine age.
