Coilover upper seat and mount
Hello everyone. I'm trying to find pictures of how people have setup their front coilovers. The car currently has Koni yellows and a sleeve setup, but the mount system and bearings are needing to be replaced.
I'm just wondering what you've all done for adapting this to the chassis with or without using the factory upper mount and original spring seat.
I'd like to be able to make a list of what components I might need. I'll likely use the Jegs sealed coilover bearings as they're my go-to for all my previous cars and seem hold up very well. I'm just not sure about the rest and how people make it all mesh. Thanks!
My thoughts are:
JEGS sealed coilover bearings and Techno toy tuning upper spring seats....that's as far as I've gotten lol.
All the pictures I've found are without the factory mount or camber plates.
Thanks in advance!

It's not clear what the upper mount is that you're using. Does it use a stock bearing or something else? You need to use whatever the hardware requires you to use.

Seems like so much stuff is custom or changed around on your car. You mentioned before that the previous owner just didn't remember what was on the car and basically you are on your own to figure it all out. Maybe you could somehow jog this guys memory. He might have some old box someplace with manuals, pictures, receipts in it. A nice pack of IPA would work wonders for this. If that doesn't work possibly hypnosis or even electro-shock therapy. Good luck.
The car will be finished soon.

Re: Coilover upper seat and mount
The car has the stock upper mount/cup setup. The bearings are seized and the bushing on the front left has been destroyed due to this lol. So I'm just seeing what people are doing for upper mount designs. I'm going to be upgrading the bearing since they're NLA parts I'm looking for.DPDISXR4Ti wrote: ↑Fri Nov 29, 2024 11:41 pm It's not clear what the upper mount is that you're using. I'm also curious if there's a good alternative for front upper mounts instead of rebuilding the factory mount/cup setup with polyurethane bushings. I see a lot of Cosworth camber plates but I'm not wanting to drill the strut tower before I get a front brace fabricated.

It's been about 15 years. I don't blame him for not remembering everything that's been done. The car uses the oem mounts but I'm just seeing how I can upgrade the upper mount and bearing system due to lack of parts.andyofcolumbusmerkur wrote: ↑Sat Nov 30, 2024 9:26 am Seems like so much stuff is custom or changed around on your car. Have you tried Rapido, Merkur Depot, and/or Merkur Midwest? I'm pretty sure stock bearings are still available, and if the stock mount is not, after-market is available.

Re: Coilover upper seat and mount
What aftermarket mounts are people using? I'd rather get parts I know I can get due to the postal strike. I'm having a set back with a vendor due to this issue.DPDISXR4Ti wrote: ↑Sun Dec 01, 2024 1:58 pmHave you tried Rapido, Merkur Depot, and/or Merkur Midwest? Re: Coilover upper seat and mount
Are you sure it has a Koni front strut? Looks like it says GAZ on the knob. Could the previous owner used knuckles and coilovers from a Sierra?

Re: Coilover upper seat and mount
Thanks but they're not a common item so I'm going to be using a different bearing. Likely the Jegs bearing or mid 90s Mazda as they use needle bearings and last a good 200k lol.DPDISXR4Ti wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 1:39 pm If you're looking for factory bearings, here's your sign....
