Several of us have upgraded to the 3G alternator, with most of us using the Ranger bracket & 95A alternator. But let's say you install a big sound system or electric power steering and 95 amps isn't enough. There are lots of big amp options for the large frame 3G, but not for the small frame. In fact, I was starting to think there were none, and then I found this...

No direct experience at this point, but I figured I'd drop it in here if only for my own future reference.

I'm planning on running a good used Bosch 90 amp but with an aluminum pulley that was already on there. It measured 48mm while the steel one on my backup Bosch 90 amp measured 50mm inside the pulley's groove.
The car will be finished soon.

Definitely a cool find!! I'll need more amperage for the electric power steering conversion down the road. Mr2 all the way. I was gonna do a GM electric assist column but this seems easier to me. Bracket, hydraulic shop for some lines and 3 wires to run it.

There are 3G alternators which output 130A from Mustangs, I believe MY96 or so, V6 engine.
I've had a 130A 3G on mine for years, but not sure what it came from application wise.

For sure. I'd say there are more of the 130A 3G's out there than 95A. Plus, the nice thing about the 130A alternators is that there are several vendors providing upgrade kits to go even bigger - 200A is readily available all day, everyday.
But for the smaller case 95A 3G, this is the only option I've found to upgrade it.
Has anyone tried to fit a 130A (big case) alternator into the Ranger bracket that typically mounts the 95A? The bolt-pattern appears to be the same, but the case conflicts with the bracket. Maybe with a combination of spacers and grinding fitment is possible?

I'm interested with finding that out as well. Your theory seems sound with the 3G setup using spacers and some clearancing. There's a 2.3 Ranger at the local yard but I wanted a 3G unit. The 5A upgrade isn't worth the entire conversion for me lol.DPDISXR4Ti wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2024 11:05 amFor sure. I'd say there are more of the 130A 3G's out there than 95A. '86 XR - I run a 130A 3G using the stock mount - only had to cut down one of the mounting ears, increase the wiring size and add a high amp fuse. Works great! Alternator is a new Bosch for a '96 Ford Mustang V6 from Rockauto
