Finaly did something on the XR

Thought you guys might be interested in my hood mod to provide an air outlet for my "updraught" IC:

Did this today while FastFord87 replaced the rear wheel bearings and continued with his fabrication of a 3" exhaust system. (Yeah, I had fun whilst he did all the hard, dirty work!

Nice work! Is that a pre-fabbed part moulded in or was it made from scratch? Either way, it looks great. :)

Made it himself. I was there for the middle-end of it.

Nah no screen needed - air is coming out of this hole (well that's the theory anyway) and all you'll see do0wn there is a suitably polished little Cossie IC.

It's a home made metal job. I just cut a flap the shape of the opening with a dremel and bent the flap down over a piece of plastic pipe to get the right bend radius. I then cut some sheet metal in a "U" shape and welded it to the hood & flap. The corners were filleted with bondo to give it the desired shape (and cover my $#!%^& welds) and the whole thing sanded down. The longest part of the job was figuring out what shape it had to be. It could be done just as well using pop rivets rather than welding & shouldn't take more than a day to get it to the paint prep stage.

That looks really good...I had ideas of doing that exact thing, it would be pointless for me to do it right now since I don't have an IC...hehe...Your design looks really functional

How close is your timming belt to the back side of the vent?....You'll have to show us some pics after it's painted...

Nice job!....

I think Wilky's goal here is to draw cool air through the grille/ic and out of the hole in the hood...it should work too...the front of the hood and grille create a high pressure area and where the hole is should have a slightly lower pressure (read vacuume) so in effect to pull air through the IC...hmm I think someones on to something here...
where'd I put that damned hammer?? :-D

there's about 2.5 inches of clearance.

Yup, you got it. There is a low pressure area where the vent is (thats why the Cossies have the vents there).
