Scorpio Reserection

Post by vcallaway »

I was recently talked (suckered?) into a Scoprio.

I'm right in the middle of a big project and did not really need another car to work on. Problem is I can't stand having something that looks like junk sitting in my driveway.

We had a couple of nice days so I dug out the buffer and went to work.

I still have a ton of work to do, but probably wont get to it until next week. George Ross is bringing me a new wheel, spoiler and some other parts saturday. I will probably put the interior back in then.

I'm kinda old, so it takes me longer than most.

I've probably got 10hrs on the paint. I'm going to do a whole writeup on my website about bringing back a seemingly lost cause to the world of the living.

Here is the process on the paint:

Wash using a strong mix of dawn dish soap. The alkaline removes oils from the paint.
Scrub the whole car using softscrub (yes, the household cleaner). This removes moss and mold buildup. Used a scrub brush on all the rubber.

The front door is softscrubbed.

I next used a buffer (harbor freight special) with a wool pad and Meguiers Diamond Cut Compound. It is a strong oxidition cutting comound that breaks down to a mild polish when heated. Keeps you from over buffing.

After that I used a Mothers Clay Bar followed with a pre-wax cleaner and then Carnuba wax.

Anyone in their right mind would have just parted the car out. But, no I had to prove a point to someone.

Here is a shot of what the inside looked like:

Here is what the front seat looks like now:

I grew up detailing cars for my dad.

Hot damn, dude! That finish looks thoroughly dead in the first pic, I'm amazed you were able to shine it up at all, let alone to that degree!

Always nice to see an artist at work. Which just proves if you have time ,know how and are a bit on the pig headed side you can turn something others would junk into something worth having. On the plastic what are you going to top coat it with?

That looks like interesting stuff . You'll have to keep us informed on how it works out. Always surprise for the lack of products that work well on plastic

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Some people seem to be confused on the definition of "old".

I am amazed at the difference you have made with that car. It looks a WHOLE lot better than when Mario and I put it on the trailer.
