Picture Page Updated - The Official Thread
EDIT: Welcome to the Official Thread for Picture Page Updates! Instead of posting a new thread every time I update the Picture Page, I'm going to just keep using this one over and over and over. Let's see if we can wear this thread out!
Clicking into this thread for the first time? Never visited the MerkurTech.com Picture Page? Well, here's a quick summary. In 1998, I had a project I wanted to do to my XR4Ti, but was having trouble explaining the idea to folks on the IMON list. So, I got a few digital pictures together and posted them to my web page. The Picture Page was born! In 2002 it was moved from my AOL server to MerkurTech.com. It also received the sort feature that allows us sift though the available categories and narrow in on the topic of interest. Since then, it has become a decent source of information on the internet for the Merkur community.
Recent Statistics (as of February 2009):
Approximate number of pictures available for your viewing pleasure: 1255
Total size of available pictures: 71 MB
You can spend all day there. In fact, you can spend several consecutive days there, without a break, if you are on dial-up. Thank goodness for high-speed internet connections! So, here's the link, go and enjoy:

Okay, so Colin's Volvo head swap pics aren't really all that new here, since he's got an active thread with pics. But, there's a bunch of other new pics there - 31 total this month, and we're only 3 days into the month!

So, take a break from the latest versions of street-racing, or can-I-remove-my-EGR, or I-think-the-new-2.3-head-fits-the-XR, or my-Felpro-valve-cover-gasket-won't-stop-leaking threads and go visit the Picture Page.

I don't know if Yomama was a Freudian slip or intentional, but it is fricking hilarious. Those pictures were taken back in 2002, when they were selling off the last remaining lots of Yokohama AVS Intermediates. I have a stock sized set on my racer with 300 miles on them and Grayson's set, which is pictured here, probably has less than 500 miles on them. In other words, they'll dry rot way before we can enjoy the tires to their fullest.John Brennan wrote:Yeah, great stuff, thanks. BTW, where are you getting those Yomama Intermediates? I had a set of those; they were terrific. Didn't know they were still being made.
Even in stock size, the AVSs are amazingly responsive. They are stiff enough that I can enjoy my racer suspension. I'm actually planning on moving them to my road car and putting my fatty-bo-batty Kumho MX street tires on 17s to my racer. That way I get to enjoy the AVSs some.
Anyway, thanks for the nice feedback on the pictures fellas. I'm about to go upload some more!
I might just rename this thread from "Picture Page Updated - Volvo Head Swap Pics and Cool Stuff" to something more general and keep using it. I thinn I like that idea better than reposting a new thread everytime. After all, there are two other "Picture Page Updated" threads visible in this forum as I type this. That's kinda silly.

Alrighty. Today's updates are two:
#1 - Harry King's modification of the front suspension crossmember raise the inner pivot bolt of the TCA. This helps compensate for camber curve problems on a lowered car.
#2 - Wheel bearing comparisons between the Scorpio and the XR. Some of the pictures have been seen before and some have not.
Enjoy!

I presume this is the picture you are referring to:GeneticRehab wrote:Anglin. How did you get the tires under your car. Is it lowered?

I was just test fitting those wheels and tires to my car. That picture actually has two guys pushing down on the back bumper to get the body down close to the top of the tire. Because of the springs I wouldn't be able to drive the car on the street like that, since the tire would touch the body. (The springs are BAT's discontinued 40 mm "racing" springs.)
So, it was just a test fit. Looks good though!

That photo is the 254/45R17's on a 17x8" rim with 21mm offset right? did you try them in the front too? I want to use 245/45-16's and it looks like they'll go on the back fine but what about the front?
No-really I can stop bringing home XR4's whenever I want....
I um......sorta.....um.....like....have seven now.....and a couple Scorpios....

"Yomama" was completely intentional; started using it with my racer friends at the F2000 circuits in Arizona, and among the Discount Tire Direct employees. I thought it good enough to stick-- pun intended...
King's front suspension mods are very interesting as well. It's always a pleasure to see the innovation and home-grown engineering talents of 'our kind' at work (also nice to see Harry enjoys a good Aussie Cabernet: Alice Springs). One question I have about this is whether or not this is any easier than putting adjustable camber/caster plates on, as it for sure doesn't give you the adjustability of that mod. This looks to be a "get it right the first time" mod, no?

Many thanks for this Chris - I have just consumed gallons of coffee enjoying this on a snowy Sunday morning! There's lots of stuff there that I have spent (wasted) hours wondering if it was possible & how to do it! Tremendous resource & thanks again.

You guys are really taking a Picture Page beating these days. I've made two more posts today. Yeah, two more. That's seven new topics this month and more than 60 new pictures. Wow.
So, what's new? I added pictures of how an XR trunk lock breaks and pictures of the order of disassembly and cleaning of it. I also posted a set of comparison pictures between all the differential mounts that can go on the XR4Ti.
Enjoy! (This might be the last one for a little while.)

Alrighty, I'm ready to get back into the swing of things with a new series of updates to the Picture Page. I have some suspension stuff coming as well as some modified XR seat brackets. However, before the seat bracket pics can be posted, I need to have some comparison pictures of stock seat brackets. Does anybody have any pictures of the stock driver side seat brackets? If so, email me at anglin@mc2racing.com.
Thanks!
Thanks!

"Stock" as in, "stock, unmolested, and detached from seat", I guess is what you're looking for, right? I don't think I can help you there.anglin wrote:Does anybody have any pictures of the stock driver side seat brackets? If so, email me at anglin@mc2racing.com.
That's exactly what I am looking for. Since you don't have the hook up, (you can't holla, even if you hear me), I'm still in need of the pics. Again, I'm looking for stock driver side seat brackets/mounting rails. Thanks!DPDISXR4Ti wrote:"Stock" as in, "stock, unmolested, and detached from seat", I guess is what you're looking for, right?
