The Bench

Post by Grayson »

These images are really just meant as teasers since they don't indicate the future purpose of the bench. Here's a hint - the construction of this bench (plus a whole bunch of upcoming work) will result in a new range of Merkur products!

What could it be for?

Wow - that thing is built like a brick sh*thouse!

Will it be used to support a beam jig? :?

Hope not, welding on wood (or a metal sheet ontop of wood) is kinda a recipe for a fire...

PAddy is right - no welding, and no beam stuff.

I cant believe how insane you are with building. It's good that your fanaticism for overkill extends past the automotive arena.

I have no idea what that bomb shelter you call a bench is for, but it sure does look purdy.

I'll go out on a limb, and say something for making carbon fiber parts.

Nope. No body parts, no carbon.

Would I need a 350lb CAD-designed bench to hold up a carbon fiber part?

I think it's going to be used to set something on top of it... Possibly to store some things underneath as well.

Hmmm... :dunno

Why do you need a table that big for a mill then?

Because it's a gigantic mill, and there will be computer-controlled servos where the handwheels normally go! The whole mill will have to be enclosed to contain the coolant flood...even when the table is extended full forward and full right.

I still have an unbelievable amount of work to do, so there will probably be a lot of updates to this thread before anything actually gets manufactured.
