Re: DSP to SM build
That makes my 225 f / 245 r setup look a lot better. Does your car push much at low speed? How is turn in? Does it have any throttle off over steer with the suspension set up the way you like it?

Re: DSP to SM build
Well thats a loaded question lol, I hope your interested in reading this: I/we drive turbo cars and with that going into the turns deep is bad driving technique, basically you are getting on the gas later which means more lag and more time on the clock, you need to brake early so that you get on the gas faster and build boost faster and it's alot more fun to drive. Does that answer your question. No my XR doesn't push because I'm slow enough to make the turn and then power out. My problem in mid turn push (not bad, drivable).catapultkid wrote:That makes my 225 f / 245 r setup look a lot better. Does your car push much at low speed? How is turn in? No my XR doesn't have throttle off over steer, you may though, because your tire width (2in's smaller then me) and not knowing how your XR is set up. One thing though, throttle off over steer is not the fast way, if it's unstable on turn in, you are going to be waiting for to take a set before your back on the gas, not good/fast.

Do either of you brake boost during autox? Or use the left foot to brake, while the right foot is used to build boost sooner?

I've tried it...but am not good at it. I know Ray has some experience with it and is far more successful at it than I am.Esteban wrote:Do either of you brake boost during autox? Or use the left foot to brake, while the right foot is used to build boost sooner?

First off anybody that can left foot brake successfully, high five here
I can't or just don't want to, to me I right foot brake all the time on the street and it's like 2nd nature to me, I just don't have to think about it and I have a better feel
I get asked this question all the time "do you left foot brake" and when I say no, the look on there face is priceless and then they say "if you did you would be faster" maybe so but I win alot now and the XR isn't Maxed out, when it's Maxed out and I'm losing big events, I'll think about the left foot braking thing.

What helps do this setup-wise? Good brakes to allow all braking to be done before the turn? Brake proportioning so that the front end doesn't nose dive as much and you can get the load back on the rear tires sooner? quick spooling turbo? Cossie T3?DSPXR4ti wrote: Set your XR up so you can get on the gas very, very early

Re: DSP to SM build
WOW! just get the brakes to Work! will help, you want the XR to nose dive alittle or transferred the weight of the car to brake better and will help in the turn in. The thing I did was make sure my alignment is always dead on!! I take it to a shopp 3 times a year. If anyone has taken an XR to the alignment shop, ask them to push up and then pull down on the rear of the car, you will see that your toe in the rear moves by more then 3/4 of an inch, Crazy! So my rear toe is 0 zero total toe. This maybe why I have a little push mid turn but the rear end is stable and when I hit the apex I'm at full throttle.Esteban wrote:What helps do this setup-wise? What are you using for rear alignment Ben? I'm ashamed to admit I've never had mine aligned.

Re: DSP to SM build
Are you doing the home alignments with the string method, or have laser tools?
Or do you have a lifetime alignment deal with some shop?
I'm thinking of getting the lifetime deal at Firestone. I know we can only adjust front toe, but I'll be raising/lowering the car between autox and daily commuting.

Shims, I had a $#!* load of them cut out to give me set up right.

they range between 1/64 to 1/16 of an inch and then made some super fine shims and cut them out by hand to get that perfect set up. Just to let you all know, I spent 4 hours making sure the rear alignment was right and then took it to a shop to double check my work.

Depending on the cost of that "lifetime" alignment and ask them if you can use your alignment spec's.Esteban wrote:Are you doing the home alignments with the string method, or have laser tools?

I do all my own work at home with strings and like I said I have it double check by a shop, the shop here only charges me 25.00 ea time, not bad to know it's right.

Firestone charges $160 for the lifetime alignment. i know they don't have a good rep, but at least they shouldnt mess up a laser reading.

To go back a few posts - i left foot brake. It becomes second nature during autocross; and only is an issue on a course where you have to shift from 1,2,3,2,3,2,1,2,3,2,3,2,1 or something, so your left foot is dancing quite a bit. Does it help // am I faster? I do not honestly know, but it's more fun for me, so why not? Coming out of a corner under full boost is always fun.

What your 2nd gear go to? I would guess 63 mph or less.

Re: DSP to SM build
Yes, much less. I no longer have a speedometer. I have the 87 TC T5, with the short ratios, and i converted my rear to a 3.36 which helped a bit over the 3.64. One some of our tiny courses, it's a non-issue, but on our longer courses it really hurts me. So i'm adding horsepower, changing the intake manifold, etc, to increase top end.
