You may want to play with the Ranger Roller at the track. -4* is supposed to give you back some top end. If you ever come across a course that's mainly 2nd gear and don't redline much, it may be best to go -2 or even 0 for best mid range. Let's hope this cam spools up tha turbo much better now.
Can you give me some details on the oil cooler. I'd like to build a similar setup.

Re: We bought our first xr. Autox/street machine in the maki
Thanks for the compliments as always. Quick note but I did run the A237 4* advanced. Still had issues with the low end, but a lot of that could be the turbo.
Jeff, It is a mocal sandwich plate with thermostat. 4x summit racing -10AN 90* fittings and roughly 10' of summit racing braided hose. Then I used a bosch filter because they were shorter and cleared my steering shaft. Lastly I top it off with a CXracing oil cooler with -10AN fittings, 19 row unit I believe. All in all costs roughly $250 bucks to duplicate.
Thanks for the Ranger Roller, I've got it 4* retarded as stated and I do use the top of 2nd gear A LOT. I really hope it helps, but now that the turbo is acting weird who knows what I'm going to end up with. I need to find a replacement asap. Are you still running the Holset?

Re: We bought our first xr. Autox/street machine in the maki
Quick question about your wheel and tire combination and fitment, if you do not mind. Wondering how they fit? I am planning on running the same tires on my car DII's 225/45/16 all around on wheels that came off an XR with 225/50's rear and 205/40's front all stock, I think the offset is close to 38mm but am not 100%. I think these are 8" width.
My car is lowered about 1 3/4 inches and I DO NOT have coil overs on the front. I tried the existing 50's on the front and with a fender roll and strut perch massage they look like they would work but I have not drove the car to make sure everything was going to work because I have not rolled the fenders yet. I am assuming that a 45 series is going to be that much better for clearance. I want to know that I can get the 225's with a fair degree of confidence and would rather have more rubber out front than having to go all the way down to a 205 to be certain of fitment.

225/50/16 are kinda big I've noticed. They are fine in the rear but the front seem to poke some with my pony wheels.XR2300 wrote:Quick question about your wheel and tire combination and fitment, if you do not mind. Since that image I've changed a bunch of stuff. Now have longer LCAs, different offset in wheels and new ride height. I've rolled and banged the fenders as well so we will see how it all comes together.

What are those adjusters from? Are you using the same strut assemblies? If so, then you probably lost about an inch of travel with the flush strut tops. I like how you angled them to adjust camber and caster but it will be a simultaneous adjustment and cant be independently dialed in.

No, I figured for street tires it was time for some "max caster, max camber" action. We will see how how it goes but I'm not too worried at this point. I did loose a bit of travel and I still need to add back some heavy bump stops as mine are deteriorated. The adjusters are a from a used ground control setup I picked up for ~$120 or so. Love them so far, I think they were for a mk2 vw or datsun 240Z.Esteban wrote:What are those adjusters from? Are you using the same strut assemblies? Thanks for the compliments as well Mike.

Re: We bought our first xr. Autox/street machine in the maki
Decent weekend on the car. Here is the latest.
First thing first. Here is my idea of a bleeder/coolant swirl pot. Basically the coolant swirls downward as the bubbles in the system rise. I have reason to believe that is why I was having over heating issues, I just couldn't get the air out as the radiator line had ups and downs. Now this way I can purge everything. Basically it just a tube that is capped top and bottom. Then a NTP bleeder added it to the top to provide the exit for the air. It is made of stainless and it has some really pretty welds. However they are all on the bottom... you can kinda see one on the lower stainless line... hate it when I do that.

Ran out of engine bay room on the intake side so here is where I mounted the catch can and power steering cooler.

Work being done image.

Note the changes. Lots of heat protection on the electrical stuff as well as the oil feed line to the turbo. Ran the vacuum block and all the lines. IAC wired in and ready to go. New Motocraft OE plugs and wires, plus my cool little zip tie wire spacer.

Then I played with the stupid Chinese bumper and stupid Chinese blinkers. Nothing fit and I was so mad, but what should I expect?

The car started and ran for 25 seconds or so. I need a timing light to set timing. Then it is just a matter of finishing a few little things, swapping the turbo back out and making the exhaust. Hopefully it can be done and driving this time next week, but I'm not holding my breath.
Next weekends activities already planned out... Side exhaust or rear? Anyone?

And here is something for those of you who may be interested. I picked this up way way tooo cheap to pass on. Just don't expect updates and time soon as my plate is pretty full.

Hey when you look through the gas pack, you'll see little knobs like things sticking out all the way through the gas pack and there's a certain way it should go but if you turn it around you'll get better flow and still good sound deadening or under 94 DB's at 100 feet.

Thanks Ben I did notice that and was wondering the same thing. I may mock it in to see if it streetable in either direction before committing.DSPXR4ti wrote:Hey when you look through the gas pack, you'll see little knobs like things sticking out all the way through the gas pack and there's a certain way it should go but if you turn it around you'll get better flow and still good sound deadening or under 94 DB's at 100 feet.

Make it a rear exit system. This way, you can clamp on rotatable 60* or 90* bend and clock it facing AWAY from your sound guy. -=o)
Don't know if this trick is used in your area to stay within the sounds limits even without a muffler/resonator.
The rear exit should help add a tiny bit of weight in the rear.
If you run a side exit, the sound meter will register high as you drive by depending on what side it is on.

It is more of street legalness that I'm looking for than at the autox/track. Which your point still stands out in that scenario.Esteban wrote:Make it a rear exit system. This way, you can clamp on rotatable 60* or 90* bend and clock it facing AWAY from your sound guy. -=o)

I'm not sure what brand cherry bomb. My brother had it lying around for a couple years and I snagged it.
