Getting spare keys made

I haven't been able to find any place that can make me a spare key. I noticed someone was selling blanks on eBay but i passed on that. Well yesterday i was at the flea market and found a lock smith in there and asked him what he thought about it so he says yeah i've got over half the world's keys, i should have something. It turns out that Mercedes used the same blanks as the Merkurs did so i finally have another spare key. I had him make me a plain no plastic metal key because i hate big thick keys.

Anyways just thought i'd pass that along. I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but when you go to get one made tell them that some Mercedes used the same style blank.

Toyotas of some kind work too, that's what I have for my XR. I have NEVER had a problem getting keys for the XR. The Scorpio OTOH...

I've got some key blanks, but haven't had any cut yet. I do know they are the "TX" type. It is apparently some sort of designator, kind of like the "tibbe key" designator as used on alot of euro fords, jags and such. I know the standard plastic key should be straightforward to cut, but if I recall, the torch keys are trickier due to the size and shape of the housing. Are you looking for the standard or torch?

I just wanted a simple metal key, no plastic around the key ring part. I've got 3 vehicles worth in keys, plus the front door and mail box, plus a couple others...i like to keep my keys as "slim" as i can and the big plastic keys really add a lot of bulk to them. The key i had made kinda sucks but it does open the doors and start the car fine.

I thought it might be a problem because i went to Walmart (probably where i went wrong to start with) and the guy there said if it's German nobody is going to have a key. I should've looked into it more before i listened to that guy.

x2 My local ACE hardware had 5 or 6 FC7 blanks in stock when I went to get a spare key cut.

Toyota TR40 keys work fine. Common as dirt.

the locksmith I had cut my steel keys had a whole stack of the key blanks that i've seen sold online. He gave me 3 extras with the price I payed for him to cut my steel key.

maybe I missed it, but this should be a sticky somewhere.

I just had the guy at crappy tire cut me 2 different Ford keys, and neither of them worked.

Guess Ill be going back and telling him its a toyota, and see what he can do.

Went back and told them it was a toyota. They found the right key, but my real key was really short. And the toyota one was really long. So it didnt fit into their automatic key cutter machine. Walmart uses a similar one.

So, I went to home Hardware. They still have the old style machine. So they were able to line it up and cut it out. Had 4 copies made.

Now that I have one cut on a toyota blank it should be easy enough to get copies.

For the future though, if anyone is using he original key, you may have similar troubles, so you will probably need to go to a locksmith who knows what he is doing. Or find someone with an older cutting machine.
