Tried to pretty up the flares a bit. Note: EPDM doesn't take to paint. at all. first attempt was fish eyed past the point of being acceptable, so i scotchbrited that all off, again, the prepped the surface again, and used some adhesion promoter. Even then, the paint wanted to run right off the surface. It's not perfect, but it will do until i can fabricate new flares with steel. Going to grab a set of VW flares or something with a similar arch, borrow a plasma cutter, and just make my own.

Anyway, i also decided that the white exhaust was a bit too "in your face" so i figured flat black would work well. I wanted a bit of 'bling' in the exhaust, so see below. ;)

First, the shot of the tires from the rear. Sorry the lighting sucks, but you get the idea.

I think you can tell where i'm going with this for the exhaust. Was a chore to tape off that exactly, but a little patience and...

man, i have a lot of cone scuffs...

tada!

flares look funny with the street tires, but it gives you a feel for how much bigger the new wheels / tires are.

Well, flat black is just kind of boring, and i figured that would be pretty original and only took about an hour to make the template and transfer it to the tape :)

flares are the pacer performance no lip side mount flexi flare, 2 1/8". About $50. Enough extra material to do the rears as well if i wanted.

edit - joe, i used the factory badge on the rear and translated that to paper, then to tape.

test fitting on the new trailer. back story: bought a used, home made trailer for a steal... but it needed some work. full wiring job, breakaway box, a battery for the breakaway, wheels and tires, new steel in places, all new lights, and a crapload of welding, sanding, painting. no progress pics (sorry) but it was about 20 hours of work, maybe a little more. Got some ramps made up as well. i can get pics of those too.

She's now a trailer queen. laugh if you want.

wiring, battery, box, switch, new ball reciever (old one was for a boat, was 2", and rated for 3500 lbs. this one required a lot of cutting and stuff, but is 10k lb and 2 5/16). PET sleeved the wiring, heh.

Image
the reflective stuff you see is black reflective vinyl. it's white from the flash, and black when it's not being shined on.

ready for tomorrow.

r-comps :)
yes, i know the tank is weeping slightly. that happened after getting trailered home last year. the straps were rubbing the tank. considering a fuel cell or something to replace, but it hasn't gotten any worse than that since last year, so i might just live with it.

Image

dual 5500lb straps tight, backup chains with axle straps. hope i never need to use em!
Image

ramps: 3' long 2 x 12 (pressure treated). as a precaution, each side has 1.25" angle bolted to it. front is 1.25" angle stitch seam welded to another 1.25" angle to make a T, then two pieces of 3/8 rod bent into 90 degrees to lock onto the trailer itself. This provides the "lip' and the "lock". 3' is PLENTY long enough. The rear of the trailer is like 8" off the ground :)
Image

My 85 ford towing my 85 merkur. a match made in heaven. bonus points, both have side exit exhausts.
Image

edit: hope that fixed the pics

Red Xs FTL.

I love this thread. I love the car. I love making generally unconstructive but supportive posts!
