Disappearing Post Issue - RESOLVED 4/15 2:30PM EDT

Post by DPDISXR4Ti »

We're aware that there's some kind of issue with random posts going away. Seems like it might be some kind of issue with the index file - not sure just yet, but we're investigating.

Continue as you were - just didn't want people thinking we were randomly deleting posts for no reason.

Okay, we're back in business again.

It took some time to figure out the root cause until our ISP finally mentioned that the new load-balanced servers they put in for us might be related to the problem ...especially since the problems began at the same time they brought the new configuration on-line (none of which we knew about beforehand). :x

It turns out that something hiccuped, and that resulted in two different versions of what was supposed to be the same database being out there! :beats head Try as we could, the train-wreck of mis-pointed data that followed could not be unravaled, so we had to roll things back to Sunday morning's 4:30AM backup.

Indeed, that means that anything posted from 4:30 AM Sunday through yesterday is now in the bit-bucket. My apologies - that's totally unacceptable to me. I think most of us knew something screwy was going on by Sunday afternoon and didn't post much after that, but I can think of a couple significant posts that were made after that point in time. Unfortunately, they're gone now.

The good news is that we will have snappier performance now, but still, it's pretty damn unacceptable how our ISP handled this and we will have to examine our options going forward.

As you were - continue on...

I've sent about 5 or 6 PMs to another member over the course of these shenanigans and they all disappeared. The only way that I know that he got them is that when he replies, the board notifies me via email, but there's nothing there. I just sent him another one a minute ago and there isn't a copy in my sent box.

It'll be in your Outbox until he reads it.

Odd, I haven't noticed any issues, but will try to pay attention. Any details? Time?
