I'll rewrite the links. They now are showing as red X's for me as well. using picasa (google) to host those.
Nate: Sort of. Climb out of car with window down, then after you put the car and strap her in, you have to go in thru the hatch, put the key in, put the windows up, then climb back out. Must look funny, i'm sure.
Anyway, first points event yesterday.
First points event. Few pics of my co-driver. Placed first in class. Had a really fun battle with a C-Prepared 98 Stang. he had me by 0.03 seconds after run 4, but i was able to shave 4 tenths to put some time on him. He then coned his best run, giving me the win. More pics to follow as they come up.

it was a cone. if you hit it, it was a 6 second penalty. if you MOVE it, no penalty!

yeah, the car is pretty well planted. had to dial out some camber in the front (picked up 0.3x seconds) and firmed up the front dampers a little.
only had the rear stepping out a few times. really liking the new set up.

Great pics. I love it when I see this thread move back to the top because I know you've been out autocrossing again. Good stuff! Thanks for sharing.demonfire wrote:really liking the new set up.

Non-performance mod, but super convienence mod.
Problem: Trailer is super low deck, meaning you cannot open the doors on the car when it's loaded. Had to climb thru hatch, thru roll bar, key in, window down, then get back out, climb in thru the window, and move car.
Solution: install kill switch to window switch (needed as the wires bias ground when not in use). Then run wiring to front of car, couple ground from car to ground with trailer, install switch to control drivers window.
Luckily, had parts on hand, but still was almost a 3 hour job.
Pics:
Kill switch for window switches. Forward = trailer switch, back = car switches.

showing wiring to kill switch. Soldered / heat shrunk (you know me)

wiring coming out of front bumper, quick connects to wiring to trailer.

trailer wiring for switch. PET sleeved, heat shrunk, etc etc

switch on trailer. Later on i put on a rubber water guard (and you cant see the switch anyway)

voila. Now flick trailer switch to control driver side window instead of climbing thru hatch.
Was fun, since positive for up requires negative on the down switch, and positve for down requires ground for up... but no big deal. DPDT switch, connect pins 1 and 6, then 3 and 4, where 2 = positive, and 5 = ground means switch up means pin 3 = pos and 4 = ground, and down is 3 = pos and 6 = ground. Tie them together and you can basically reverse polarity by flipping the switch. This requires disconnecting the factory switch, (with the installed switch, of course) otherwise signal out would bias ground and just not work right.

I've seen some cool stuff done to Merkurs before. However, I think this one takes the cake for the coolest mod done to an XR. Windows that roll up/down from a switch on another vehicle. Nuts.

Left foot braking in the XR is EASY. (with a race bucket and a harness, anyway)
I was rediculously consistant yesterday. Started LFBing on run 4 - once i get this down and am more comfortable with it, i bet i have another second in that car.
Results:
Run1: 36.670+1 (clipped a cone in the slalom with inner rear tire)
Run2: 36.769
Run3: 36.158
Run4: 36.128 (started LFBing here)
Run5: 36.142
Fun Run: 36.1xx (with passenger)
Fun Runs from other people fell within the same time. Apparently my car is pretty desirable to drive - i normally have a short line of people waiting to drive the car at the end of the day.
My main competitor in a C-Prepared 65 Mustang (which btw, is a blast to drive) was 0.027 seconds behind me at the end of the day. His times were...
35.327+DNF
37.320
36.751
36.274 (i started to get nervous here - he was improving FAST and i was only able to find 61.1xx...)
36.155 !!!
Anyway, few pics. Nothing spectacular.
Fresh off the trailer...

Setting up the shade and such.

Warming up the car in the staging lane

Main competition (besides my co-driver):

This one got the right click + "save target as" treatment. Nice picture.demonfire wrote:
I finally got a chance to race this season yesteday. It had been 4 days short of a three year break since I last raced before going to Iraq. I improved a ridiculous 2.32 seconds from the first run to the last run. My first run, compared to everybody else's first runs, put me squarely in 6th (out of 8 - biggest class of the event). My last run moved me into 2nd behind Grayson (who was swapping FTD with an ASP Vette). I definitely "warmed-up" as the day went on.
